so with this stupid new wild card format, how exactly does it work?

there is a play in game to see who gets the wild card? one game only?

the reason i ask, is becuase i got an alert and saw articles this morning saying the yanks, Os and Texas have made the playoffs....when, i dont think thats accurate...

making the "Wild Card game" doesnt qualify as the playoffs in my book...

can someone clarify this

They have made the playoffs. 5 teams from each league make the playoffs. The new single-game round is part of the playoffs.

There's no practical difference between this "playoff" game and the "play-in" games we've had in the past, other than this new "playoff" game allows a team who wouldn't have deserved the old "play-in" game.

I'm sure the team that loses this new game will be greatly comforted by the fact that they made it to the "playoffs". I'm sure they'll raise banners in honor of making it this far.

I'm not saying it's any different. But by rule, they made the playoffs.

I actually like the additional wild card, but I think it should at least be a 3-game series. I imagine it eventually will be.

I know what the league says, but I have to agree with Hatter. These ridiculous one game playoffs are a regular season play-in game to me. Kind of like those stupid play-in games the NCAA basketball tournament has. And no, I don't hate it because it hurts the Braves this season, I said I hated this two Wild Card idea the moment they announced it.

Except those stupid play-in games for the NCAA tournament are still apart of the tournament. It's stupid that they added them, but they wanted more of the "big boys" in the tournament.
