reider, so how do you crank so many units out every day?

I am running folding on 3 machine for a total of 8 cores, and I seem to get folds worth like 125 - 350 points for a whole day of folding. I don't get it!?!?!?

I'm lucky to be hitting 1800 pts a day now.

SMP.SMP.SMP!
Each C2D should run SMP - that's minimum 600 PpD (1.5GHz) - 1700 PpD (3.6 GHz)
Each C2Q should run 2 SMP's - that's minimum 3000 PpD (2.4GHz)

3 machines - 8 cores... should be 2 duals one quad; so your production should be at least 4200 PpD !

I didn't get any of that. All I know is I use a ps3 to do my folding. It would be nice if more blu-ray.commers folded. It'd be nice to move over the 100 threshold.

My 4core box is running 32 bit linux; so no SMP client there

(running 4 instances of F@H).

My 2 other boxes are running the SMP client ...

SMP is a folding client for high-end PC's; it gives much more points then PS3.

Is it a big problem for you to install a 64-bit distro?

What is your CPU usage on all machines? Is it 100%?

The dual-core machines are Windows or Linux also?

I'd suggest keeping things as simple as possible to minimize confusion. Maybe incentives for:

joining and maintaining a certain PpD average over a set time period (week/month)?
increasing the average number of points generated by X% over a set time period compared to a prior time period?

I'd also probably put some disclaimer that this is just for fun, and the offer may be withdrawn at any time.. else the "provider" could be victim of their own success (or in other words, be in a spot where much more $$$ is disbursed than what was originally intended)

Well, it is possible to still fold usiing a SMP client on a 32-bit linux host if you use VMWare (depends on your technical tolerance/geek level

)

To run a 64-bit linux virtual machine on a 32-bit linux host, you need an Intel chip with virtualization technology (the E6xxx chips and above have it, the E2xxx and E4xxx do not), and to have that option enabled in your bios. Then you can run 64-bit VMs on a 32-bit host (which is pretty cool imo).

Even if you don't have an intel chip with virtualization technology, you could still run VMWare on a 32-bit linux host, and run a windows virtual machine and fold

VMWare Server is available for a free download from http://www.vmware.com/download/server/

Generally speaking certain applications require a certain distribution, and/or they will be only supported by their vendor under a certain distribution. Switching from 32 to 64-bit isn't trivial (or even possible) for everyone.

yeah, I can't switch it to 64bit right now. Maybe sometime in the near future.

All Cores are running at 100%.

I used to get many many more points a day; but it seems that they did something recently to cause it to not generate as much points anymore !?

So if I understand correctly, it's not a dedicated to folding quad. Maybe you could use a bootable CD then (see link below) to fold SMP's when you don't use that PC (at night for example); and your current setup rest of the time.

What kind of dual-cores do you have? What OS are running on them?

If you are installing Vista, you need to turn off Password authentication or else the "MPI" process won't run properly when you first install...if it doesn't run, then SMP won't run...struggled with this one for months (you can turn it back on after SMP is installed and running - but once it starts, finding a time to shut it down is tough without possibility of losing the unit you are working on)

Once the AS5 sets up, I will be OC'ing, hopefully to 3.2GHz

Great news. I think with the Zalman you can easily go up to 3.33GHz. Houston summer kicked in... my ambient room temps went up to 77-78F during the day - but Q6600 cores are still holding at 61C highest.

OHhhhhhhhh. SMP is a folding client. okay. Thanks. I don't have a high-end PC. Maybe in the future. But for now, I fold while I'm at work with my ps3.

Another question comes to mind: do you have a "yes" set for "Allow receipt of work unit assignments and return of work results greater than 5MB in size" ? Why would SMP's on your dual cores pull such a small work units

Can you fold@home from the home PC as well, so run the PS3 and my 2-3 home PC's? If so, where do i get that software, and is it free (I assume it would be) I leave them on all the time anyways. My main home PC i am sure is faster than my PS3 with quad core processor.(I would think
