That isn't true anymore. A few years ago sure, but now plasmas are up to
65,000 hours to half brightness. Even if you watched for 8 hours a day, you would't notice any difference for at least fifteen years. Not that anyone keeps TVs for fifteen years anymore.

I have a 40 inch sony bravia XBR LCD http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1152227795761. Works great in a small veiwing room and the picture just pops. If you have the space I'd go with a plasma but as you may know plasma tvs only range at about 48-50 inches and up. I don't have a big enough room to support 50+ inches so I went with the 40. If you go this route just check the specs on what your buying...not all of the smaller tv's (40 and under) support 1080. So if your trying to get the best possible quality look out for that.

that might be true but shouldent they test it more like how long dose it take the tv to get noticeable less brighter then first bought? but half brightness is a big change lol

yeah and who states that? the manufacturers website right?
Work in the business, watch them in the stores for 6-8 months for the 12-14 hours a day they are on, and see how they look when we go to sell them open box. Then we put the new model out and compare...it's like night and day. Then 6-8 months again, you are wowed again at how bright it is, how deep the blacks are, but in a few short months they fade. We don't leave our plasma's on VIVID or Dynamic, We set them to standard generally. I lived the experience, I see it at work daily...All the promises of "Pixel orbiting" that reduces burn in (NOT) the 65k til half life...I aint buying it. Plasma was a good compromise til LCD could get up to speed, but Like sony...I aint investing any more into it.

If you can wait... then wait. I think we'll see some much better models (and some better prices) in the Fall.

I prefer LCD to Plasma, but it's really a user-preference sort of thing. I wouldn't buy anything with a black level lower than 10,000 to 1 (meaning don't get 5,000 to 1). Some of the newer models coming out here in Korea have 15,000 to 1. That's really great for an LCD, and is on par with (or better than) blacks many PDPs put out, IMHO.

My LG XCanvas has a 10,000 to 1 ratio, but some Samsung PAVV monitors I've seen at 10,000 have a bit better blacks. As always, it's not just about specs.

The biggest mistake you can make is to get excited because one monitor is brighter / more vibrant than everything else. They are often set up to look that way on the showroom. At the showroom-common preset, my TV about burns my eyes in my home. I have to tone it down.

Pay attention to details in blacks -- very important.

Well if you had read the first post I wrote, I stated I've been in the business for ten years, and we do have them on display for 14 hours a day for 8-12 months at a time. And you know what? They look just as good as the day they came out of the box. We sell these demos all the time. I don't know what plasmas you may be used to, but any of the company's worth their salt stand up to many many years of nice bright pictures. Maybe you're looking at the low end crap plasmas like LG or Westinghouse or Visio. Companies like Panasonic, Pioneer, Fujitsu and Samsung put out quality Plasmas that stand up. Nobody else is bothered by the lack (compared to plasma) of deep color or good black levels in LCD? I've had an Elite plasma for three years, and it still looks good.

Interesting you saying that, and i do tend to agree with the first half of the statement. The reason i think it is well stated is because, i feel we as enthusiasts should concentrate on comparing plasmas with plasmas and lcd's with lcd's so that way we get a clearer picture of the overall picture. And i dont mean that just literally, i also mean the big picture in the way technology is going and thats why i agree with the first half of that statement. I currently own a projector and have noticd a big difference in this one i have now, compared to the last one especially in the lamp life, and also the temperature difference. To add to that i had no reason to change companies, the one i have now is still Yamaha.(There's a plug for yu Yamaha if your reading ) I believe however it is still ok to compare lcd's to plasmas, but only to a point. Splitting hairs too much can result in a negative purchase also and be self misleading, especially when spending big money. I have been my own worst enemy a few times. So to sum up i would say "baby steps are the way to go (for me) with home theatre " , lcd or plasma.
