Gratuitous? Common! That was essential to the plot!

Much more, but not as much as my 70". Basic Instinct is the quint e sensual who dunnit film of our time. Looks great on BD too! Definately worth the up-grade from DVD to BD.

I feel dirty for owning and liking BI but it's a true guilty pleasure. I'm not overly concerned with top end PQ on this one.

And that's cool. There are some BD's I own where the PQ isn't top-notch, nor do I care that much, so long as it's cheap, and better than the DVD. We all have films that we love, and for those, we want the best possible transfer...then there are films that we kinda like, or are guilty pleasures, and for those, we're not as discerning.

That said, I'd never start a thread entitled "The Ninth Gate Incredible Detail." haha

It's really not. I studied film for a bit once, and there was a whole lecture dedicated to just this film. There's absolutely tons of stuff in there relating to gender roles and so on, it's practically an art-house movie. I wouldn't mind picking it up for another look. Not see it since the VHS days.

Have you ever seen it widescreen then? It's such a better movie in full form, awesome cinematography on display in 2.35.

Only widescreen VHS. Projected. You can imagine how bad it looked but the cinematography still shone through.

just want to say....

i got the uk version today to compare to my us version.. since people say the uk looks better.

well on some shots the uk does look "slightly" better..but overall is dissapointing to watch... seems darker and the closeups arent as vibrant. feels more like dvd than the US version.

us version seems like a newer fresher transfer. uk had some "bit" more detail in some day shots.

overall us version. anyone agree?
