And that's cool. There are some BD's I own where the PQ isn't top-notch, nor do I care that much, so long as it's cheap, and better than the DVD. We all have films that we love, and for those, we want the best possible transfer...then there are films that we kinda like, or are guilty pleasures, and for those, we're not as discerning.

That said, I'd never start a thread entitled "The Ninth Gate Incredible Detail." haha

I wanted to ask:
Do we have any reasons to believe that a remastered Basic instict is on the way?
The picture isn't perfect from what i see in the reviews, and judging from the screenshots thay have removed a lot of grain, haven't they?

Yes. The UK Optimum disc is much better (no digital tampering).

It's an older transfer that appears to have been DNR'd to some degree. I have the disc, but haven't watched it in several years. Maybe I will give it a spin sometime.

My guess is this will be the best we will ever see it on Blu-ray. Studios just aren't willing to pony up the cash to remaster most catalog titles --- especially ones like these.

The U.S. version has better contrast and seemingly better encoding (based on those comparison shots).

To me, the UK release have a better, more natural looking transfer than the U.S, and it's has DTS-HD 5.1 lossless audio.

It's really not. I studied film for a bit once, and there was a whole lecture dedicated to just this film. There's absolutely tons of stuff in there relating to gender roles and so on, it's practically an art-house movie. I wouldn't mind picking it up for another look. Not see it since the VHS days.

Have you ever seen it widescreen then? It's such a better movie in full form, awesome cinematography on display in 2.35.

oh thanks.
yes it seems better concerning grain.
Is there any difference between the 2 Blurays in the film?
I mean the US release seems 3 seconds longer.
Maybe it's a shot that they cut in the UK, or is it just logos?

Only widescreen VHS. Projected. You can imagine how bad it looked but the cinematography still shone through.

I still remember seeing this movie on opening weekend with my girlfriend at the time. I was 20. I remember leaving the theater and was thinking, wow on several levels.

Alright, having watched the U.S. version a few nights ago, there is no question the DNR is distracting.

Is the UK version region free?
