Dang. Just bought the PS4 version and started playing it for the first time on my PS5. Just going to wait now to upgrade to the PS5 version because my biggest nitpick so far is the lack of haptic feedback.

Same game with more content. This is probably the best version of the game to play tbh.

It’s a bit weird though that the Directors cut PS4 > PS5 upgrade isn’t free. Especially being a 1st party Sony title. It might be a first!

Really? $30? When even EA has offered free next-gen upgrades? With Microsoft Gamepass basically giving you brand new games free with subscription (including Sony titles)? This should have been announced as August or September's PS+ free PS5 game. Why do they think those of us who supported since day would be happy to be forced to buy twice? Such a shame as I spent basically most of last summer in Tsushima and would have loved to check out the new island. Oh well, waited a year for an acceptable price on MK11 aftermath and ended up snagging the ps5 complete edition for under $10. Guess I'll get to this in 2022.

and technically you cant buy it for $10 so its a $30 upgrade. I actually was considering it when I thought it was $20 but then read further to see that was just for the PS4 versions

Well crap, I missed that it wasn’t an option to go just from standard PS4 to PS5.

yeah it can be confusing but it looks like you would first have to buy the DC on PS4 and then have an option to get the PS5 upgrade for $10. $30 if going from base game to PS5

Lame that they're charging you for the upgrade. It was free with FFVIIR, should've been here too.

Lmao, Sony finally doing what we knew they would when they could.

I knew the "Director's Cut" was just a bunch of BS to try and ram the price up for a PS5 version and basically sell some DLC. Yes the game's been fantastic, but the name changed and inclusion of the DLC was specifically to avoid giving a free upgrade to original PS4 owners who actually made it the success it was.

Well, i suppose it always goes to show that those that wait don't miss out really. They pay less for being patient.

It’s hard to begrudge Sucker Punch who has made a game that most people rate and gave away the Legends DLC for free and then enhanced the game for PS5, all free stuff. I’ve been more than happy with all the upgrades and enhancements of lots of different games, of which 90% has all been free. If they want to charge for a native PS5 version upgrade then I’m not so entitled to expect even that to be given to me for free. I ‘do’ question the PS4 Director cut > PS5 director cut charge, but not going to cry much about 10 bucks, or whatever.

Whilst i don't necessarily expect anything for free. I feel like the Legends DLC was a way to make an online mode they could use for MTX income. The new content could have been done as a DLC and i feel like an upgrade to the PS5 version shouldn't be restricted to only having the new version at a much higher RRP which is disproportionate to the typical cost of what the game sells for now typically and what they could have charged for the DLC.

Sony is fully the one behind the pricing here imo, not Sucker Punch and what goodwill was earned earlier is being undone somewhat with the stupid price gouging which is so obvious.

See, I think its easy to begrudge both Sony and SP. Just because you make a few good decisions doesn't mean I go along with the stupid ones, simply because of goodwill. It's also $30 not $10 or whatever. Charge for the DLC island, thats new content that people worked on. That, I have no problem with. They could have charged for the online stuff and I wouldn't have cared either. But these ps4--->ps5 "upgrades" have all been free so far, and rightly so. You really don't get that much beyond a bit of a graphical boost or performance increase and we already bought in and supported the game at full price or more for collector's editions. Plus in most cases, you don't get new content and the "facelift" for the game is more of a slap of paint. It's not about feeling entitled, it's about this ongoing trend in games where early adopters get screwed and have to pay for the same game multiple times either for DLC or a PS5 "upgrade". While those who didn't initially support the game and help make it the success it is, get more for less. That's why free upgrades (especially when EVERY OTHER COMPANY gives them away free) makes sense and isn't about feeling entitled. It's about supporting the audience that supported them at launch. Even EA does it, in fact they even make it possible to upgrade free from disc based to digital. I really don't understand why there's always a consumer willing to support and defend the greedy companies asking us to pay for the same item multiple times. Who happily pays multiple times for the same item and then convinces others it makes sense to do so!? I don't understand how consumers went from supporting each other and pointing out deals and whatnot to this. This isn't about SP wanting to pay employees for the work they put in, this is the same knee-jerk reaction a lot of companies are having to Covid. Oh no, a whole year where we didn't make the revenue we expected. Let's raise the price of everything to make it back and blame covid and stock levels and truck drivers. Use common sense, why pay $30 for what everyone else is giving away for free? The sad thing is, as long as there's people who continue to support this practice and defend the company's decisions, the more it'll continue to happen. Hopefully throwing away money won't continue to be so popular as we move forward.

If the DLC ends up being on a similar quality level as the main game itself, I'll spend the $30 to get the PS5 version of the Director's Cut. Now that I bought a PS5 again to go along with a Series X, I could care less about worrying about debating whether this or that should be free or to get involved in the now seemingly constant talk of how shitty Sony is now.

Are they being greedy and have their nose pointed firmly up in the air right now? It's hard to argue against it, but at the same time I'm going to worry about the games. As much as them closing Japan Studio made me angry at the time, getting a PS5 again and playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart reminded me that the games matter more than the weekly "Sony is a POS company" debating that seems to be happening lately. If I don't think something is worth it, I'll skip it, but I'm still looking forward to this and will pay if it turns out to be good.

Edit FFS

Will wait to see how much of an upgrade the game actually is from DF before making any decisions.

Didn’t read the last bit where they say $30 from Base. So that’ll be more like $40-55 Canadian.

I was talking about the Directors Cut PS4 > Directors Cut PS5 charge. This is 10 bucks, and was the charge I find questionable, but just not enough to be that bothered by. It's 10 bucks.

Yeah, I'd disagree with this. I'd say you get quite a bit of an upgrade depending on the game and modes of course, especially coming from base PS4 as I did. A recent one I've just got into is Doom Eternal. It's funny, but they've been a few people on here down-playing the benefits of PS5. I've been super impressed by most things. But I agree about the free upgrades. It's been great to get nearly everything for free so far upgrades-wise, and I'm assuming will continue, including more Sony titles (we had Miles Morales, Sackboy etc) and probably a few more added onto the PS Plus Collection over time.

I started to go through responding on all your post, but it comes down to choice. People have a choice to wait for a sale if they like? Others are ok to part with 30 on launch ... just depends on how much value that 30 means to different folks, obviously.

I'm not trying to hate on Sony or Sucker Punch or anything. I've been a Playstation supporter and fan of Sony since I was a kid and still am. This doesn't change that. But personally, for something I was really looking forward to, this is an insult and disappointment. Most all of these "upgrades" from whatever studio have been free, MS gave Xbox users The Show for free day 1 and other AAA releases. So, asking for $30 for an "upgrade" of a year old title comes off the wrong way to me. And unfortunately helps indicate Sony has no intention of keeping pace with MS. Also, what I meant when I referred to other "upgrades" not really offering much related to actual content to bring me back and keep me involved. New modes, accessibility options, cosmetics, gameplay modifiers or even new levels. Your game now looks and plays slightly better/sharper and you want me to pay for that as opposed to a free update like everything else? How much time are you really going to put into a game you played the hell out of? Also the $10 upgrade is if you go from ps4 launch GoT to Ps4 director's cut GoT. If you want the ps5 version you need to shell out $30. If it was only $10 to upgrade to ps5 I wouldn't have written any posts. You're 100% right in that it does come down to choice and what is worth $ to you. I still think the "upgrade" should be free and the DLC should be paid. That way you can decide if the $30 is worth it based on how much new content is offered. Playing the same game I already paid the Collector's edition price for and played literally all last summer just with haptics, adaptive triggers, lip synch and slightly better graphics/textures isn't worth $30 to me. I feel everyone who purchased and supported previously should be given a free ps5 upgrade for making it the success it was and because they already paid full price for it.

Your post doesn’t come off as a “Sony” hater. You are a consumer who is rightfully upset at SP’s decision about making 2 new SKU’s instead of doing what most others have done instead ala a simple upgrade.

This ain’t the first time Sony has done this with their own IPs for PS5. Spider-Man Remastered was the first.

I’m asking myself would I want to replay this game again? Free or Not. Leaning on Probably not.

I swear creativity in gaming died near the end of last gen. Can’t think of anything fresh so hey lets remaster an old game. Trending in the footsteps of physical movie entertainment medium.

I agree that it should have been a free upgrade and then the DLC a separate purchase but realistically they probably just would have ended up charging the same for the DLC anyway which I would want so I'm just viewing it as buying that.

Day one buy. Just picked up a PS5 a couple weeks ago and had been holding off on purchasing this game for quite some time on PS4, great to see that the release date for the PS5 version is only a few weeks away!
