I thought Seth McFarlane said something about re-scanning all the early seasons of Family Guy in HD for a possible BD release? I seem to recall him saying this a year, or two, ago when the current seasons of FG switched to 1.78 HD?
I guess we can place that right up there with The X-Files coming out, on BD, in 2013?

I'm not holding my breath... when they don't release the current HD broadcast seasons on Blu-ray, no reason to even consider earlier seasons.

Either way, last night's episode, A Fistful of Meg, was awesome!
I gotta admit, there was a season or two where this show was slipping, but the last three seasons are better than ever.

It was good. However, it is still slipping quite a bit. The occasional good episode is getting harder and harder to find.

I liked the season opener too. I believe it was called Finders Keepers
I like when the plots are random. Family Guy to me works better when its random.
When Seth McFarlane gets too political, it loses it. Family Guy doesn't do social or political commentary like South Park.

Which is why to me I like that we have both shows

South Park is best at social and political satire while Family Guy is stronger with random plot devices.

I just read that Vol. 12 came out on DVD on Tuesday, Dec 16. Is that normal? Meaning, Vol. 11 just came out in September, just three months ago. I thought volume releases were normally six months apart?

Yeah... this was weird. They used to do half-volumes... not even a whole season... now they have started doing whole seasons... and with this release they have caught up to present... meaning only the current-airing season isn't released.

This is the first time they have been caught up like this since the show was cancelled years ago.

As someone who doesn't follow behind-the-scenes stuff on Family Guy, I'd really love to purchase it but it seems like Vudu is the only option. I assume it's never getting released?

Has anyone done a comparison for how iTunes/Vudu looks on the SD stuff (seasons 1-7) vs. the DVD?

Well, I finally broke down and did it. I bought the DVDs. I believe I now have everything that's easily accessible (i.e. not a retailer exclusive bonus DVD) in terms of Family Guy episodes and extras:

[Show spoiler]

Family Guy is a major guilty pleasure of mine, but I've never owned any of it on DVD before I bought the Blu-ray of the Star Wars parodies earlier this year when it looked like Fox Blu-rays may go out-of-print forever. I'm similarly concerned with these DVDs, but I didn't know that Fox had re-released them in jumbo "Part" packs early last year, each of which contain five volumes and/or seasons from Season 1-14. These "parts" are currently $19.99 each, which I think is a bargain, even though they have cheap packaging. I had a gift card and some certificates to Best Buy, so $121.92 plus tax became $3.34.

Of course, the albatross would be a Blu-ray set with upscaled and HD episodes, but that seems incredibly unlikely to happen even with potential future season sets. My hope is that Disney will one day allow Fox to at least continue to put out DVDs with extras and uncensored episodes, but if not, hopefully I now have everything that did get released, before it potentially vanishes into the digital ether.
