I would say FG has no future on blu for the foreseeable future. Seth McFarlane said some stuff against HD (mostly aimed at 16:9) in his commentary on the Blue Harvest DVD, basically one of the other participants said something to the like of "Weren't there talks about the special being widescreen?" and McFarlane says that he doesn't believe comedy does well in the widescreen ratio, with the black bars (even though I'm starting to find the big bars on the side of 4:3 on my 16:9 screen very annoying).

I really do not want to buy anything on DVD anymore. I try to get everything on Blu. Only if it is a killer deal will I buy DVD but I love quaility video.
They need to make a portable, affordable Blu ray player. I know on a small screen the pix quaility probably wont make a difference but it kinda sucks to only be able to watch at home. I cant afford to buy blu ray and DVD versions of the kids movies. |

I, on the other hand, still buy lots of DVDs, because I love films and not formats. However, most of the DVDs that I still buy are older films that aren't on Blu-ray. Anyway, 1.33:1 movies/tv shows on a widescreen tv never really bothered me and I hope I never see a "widescreen" episode of Family Guy, either.

Because Family Guy animation has so much detail to see and all....

Yeah, I don't see any problem with Family Guy staying on DVD. It's animation is very simplistic, I don't see how Blu-ray could add any benefit to the picture quality. I guess if you just like to have everything on Blu, but certain things just aren't worth the upgrade. Maybe just to fit more episodes on a disc.

Also the audio is better, not necessary i suppose but i would easily buy family guy again on blu. Edit: Although, unlike most TV shows and movies, i can still fully enjoy Family Guy, Futurama, and Simpsons on DVD. |

True, it hasn't happened a lot in BD yet, but as older TV shows start to make the transition, it'll happen more and more. The only 4:3 thing on BD I know of right now is Justice League Season 1. As far as the topic itself, I'd say it's just a question of when. Once Blu-ray becomes more widespread, more niche items will see BD releases, and it won't be long before people are demanding shows on BD, even older shows. Possibly even shows that would be impossible to get a HD transfer on. |

Same for me, I am waiting for volume 6 price to drop, Future Shop as some regular price sales on FG, got some of the volumes at $20. I would not make an u;grade to BD.

But yeah, it doesn't matter if YOU would UPGRADE to BD. It's a question of whether it'd sell at all, and I assure you that there are more than a few of us who would like to own this show but never bothered to pick it up on DVD yet. |

i bet he does have a widescreen hdtv but he probably uses the zoom in on the picture so his Family Guy and American Dad shows cover the whole screen. but if he does make Family Guy and American Dad in aspect ratios of like 1.85.1 or something like that thats a widescreen image with no black bars on widescreen tvs

Take a look at these: http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2992/1080xt4.png http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/9134/480sc4.png Are you really saying that the one is not any better looking than the other? And really, if there was "lack of texturing" the image would just be a big rectangle of solid color. Having lines and shapes of different colors is a texture, even if there aren't very much intricate patterns or shading. You might not consider it worthwhile for that, but that doesn't really matter. See: the next paragaph in response to BrianAgenda. @above: I was just trying to point out that just because you won't buy something doesn't mean the product wouldn't sell regardless. Even if you wouldn't rebuy it on BD for the added resolution, there would definitely be some who would, and then there would be people like me who never got around to getting it on DVD. |
