I would say FG has no future on blu for the foreseeable future. Seth McFarlane said some stuff against HD (mostly aimed at 16:9) in his commentary on the Blue Harvest DVD, basically one of the other participants said something to the like of "Weren't there talks about the special being widescreen?" and McFarlane says that he doesn't believe comedy does well in the widescreen ratio, with the black bars (even though I'm starting to find the big bars on the side of 4:3 on my 16:9 screen very annoying).

I agree. You'd think Seth McFarlane would realize this. Surely he has a widescreen HD TV.

I really do not want to buy anything on DVD anymore. I try to get everything on Blu. Only if it is a killer deal will I buy DVD but I love quaility video.

They need to make a portable, affordable Blu ray player. I know on a small screen the pix quaility probably wont make a difference but it kinda sucks to only be able to watch at home. I cant afford to buy blu ray and DVD versions of the kids movies.

I, on the other hand, still buy lots of DVDs, because I love films and not formats. However, most of the DVDs that I still buy are older films that aren't on Blu-ray. Anyway, 1.33:1 movies/tv shows on a widescreen tv never really bothered me and I hope I never see a "widescreen" episode of Family Guy, either.

Yeah, I don't see any problem with Family Guy staying on DVD. It's animation is very simplistic, I don't see how Blu-ray could add any benefit to the picture quality. I guess if you just like to have everything on Blu, but certain things just aren't worth the upgrade. Maybe just to fit more episodes on a disc.

The new Futurama movie on blu-ray looks considerably better than the first movie on DVD did.....and the animation is the same simplisitic style as always, the colors are just more rich and the lines are smoother. I will admit it's not as significant as most blu/dvd comparisons but i notice and appreciate the difference.

Also the audio is better, not necessary i suppose but i would easily buy family guy again on blu.

Edit: Although, unlike most TV shows and movies, i can still fully enjoy Family Guy, Futurama, and Simpsons on DVD.

Agreed.

Blu-Rays are still to expensive to produce to waste putting Family Dad or American Guy on.

When Blu-Rays get down to 1/2 a cent they'll still be too expensive.

You wouldn't say that if you've seen the Simpsons movie on Blu.

You obisouly didn't saw Futurama : Bender's Game DVD vs Blu-ray that i did on my setup to show friend that even super simple animation look awesome on bluray.

But FG is drawn in Computer at 720x480.. I've not buy a dvd in 4 years so..

*sigh* That's not a wise comparison, given that Bender's Whatever is fairly recent. The early seasons of Family Guy were extremely low budget affairs, and I don't want to think how they'd look in HD. They look terrible as it is.

Also, take a look at the Simpson's movie on BD vs SD. Huge improvement in color.

Line art can gain from higher resolution just the same as everything else.

Take a look at these:

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/9134/480sc4.png

Are you really saying that the one is not any better looking than the other?

And really, if there was "lack of texturing" the image would just be a big rectangle of solid color. Having lines and shapes of different colors is a texture, even if there aren't very much intricate patterns or shading.

You might not consider it worthwhile for that, but that doesn't really matter. See: the next paragaph in response to BrianAgenda.

@above: I was just trying to point out that just because you won't buy something doesn't mean the product wouldn't sell regardless. Even if you wouldn't rebuy it on BD for the added resolution, there would definitely be some who would, and then there would be people like me who never got around to getting it on DVD.

I would like them to come on BD but I'll only buy future versions and I won't rebuy as they look fab on DVD as it is.

Default I have an idea...

The standard BD discs are 25 GB to 50 GB right? Why not make an ultimate collection of Family Guy on one disc SD or a few discs HD?

Would this be better?

Agreed, Some of the motion and clarity suffers on my DVD FG episodes. I have to turn the TV Motion Enhancer up to HIGH on my Bravia to make it look clearer.

There is nothing wrong with the idea of a Blu Transfer. As with any Standard Def source, it looks a bit cruddy when seen on a large screen even with upscaling turned on. Period. Unless you're watching that incredible new show called "Blank TV Screen"... then, the quality is about the same.

Cheers,

Doc

Seriously, guys, this show is rendered in something akin to Flash animation. Blu-ray? really? What's next, demands for 4k restorations of "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist"?

If the show is ever rendered in High-Def, then it might be worth seeing it that way. Until then, DVD continues to have more resolution than this show is even capable of.

Why is everyone saying its not coming to blu ray? It hasn't been confirmed yes, but do you all believe once DVD is dead they will keep producing the seasons on an obsolete format? Give it a year or two and I guarantee it will be. Also, if it was pointless to put it on blu ray (which its not) and McFarlane says he doesn't want to then why is Family Guy Darkside on blu ray? Everyone was saying southpark wouldn't be on blu ray but look its newest season is and it looks awesome.

i bet he does have a widescreen hdtv but he probably uses the zoom in on the picture so his Family Guy and American Dad shows cover the whole screen. but if he does make Family Guy and American Dad in aspect ratios of like 1.85.1 or something like that thats a widescreen image with no black bars on widescreen tvs
