Default 240hz LED LCD vs 600hz Plasma? Which one has better picture?

LED TV cost about twice more than plasma for the same size, but vizio is releasing their 240led led tv sometime next month for only $1,999 which about same price as some other non led lcd. I wonder can it match with plasma?

I don't think the plasma is actually 600hz video processing. The LCD might not be 240hz either. Toshiba for ex makes tvs that are really 120hz but feature 240hz backlight scanning. I think right now only Samsung and Sony make true 240hz tvs (might not be all models ... not sure)

20K for a tv sounds expensive.

The only reason LED costs so much right now is because it's newer technology. If you like a brighter picture, then LED might be the way to go, but plasma is almost always cheaper. And with Panasonics, they are 600Hz showing constant 1080p.

But a Vizio matching a plamsa? Maybe a Vizio or Sanyo plasma, but not a good quality one.

I think you need to double-check all your numbers. 240hz and 600hz are rating different features of the unit, and there is no Vizio that is $19,999... not that I would ever spend a penny on anything from Vizio, no matter what the price.

Actually I've been curious about this myself. With newer LCD's touting 240hz, how does it compare with the motion resolution of the better plasmas on the market? Are they pretty much equals now or does plasma still reign supreme? If so, why?

They're comparable: top-end LED LCD's do about 1000 lines on the Merson motion resolution tests, (and besides that, the Merson test is designed to "trip up" the way LCD's handle motion... it's always been an apples-to-oranges test that people pass off as an absolute. That's why some magazines won't have anything to do with publishing those results). Go judge for yourself. Find a store that will let you check out an XBR8 or Samsung 950. They're not perfect, (the viewing angles are actually a little bit worse than an XBR4 or XBR5), but motion is not a weakness of either of those two sets, they'll hold their own against any plasma in that respect; and that's old news. I haven't checked out any of the 240hz sets, other than last year's XBR7, which I wasn't all that thrilled about. In theory, 240hz sets should have great motion handling. To the human eye, 600 lines at 240hz should be indistinguishable from 1000 lines at 72hz; but as I said, in theory ... there's still a panel response time gap which may be noticeable.

TBH, you shouldn't look at the numbers they present to you but instead look at the figures from in-depth TV reviews

I think the panasonic will be better as it is plasma so better black levels on average but the led lcd should have good black level but coming from a budget manufacturer it may not be as good as the plasma

Motion response may also not be as good without artifacts being introduced on the LCD compared to the panasonic

But try to find reviews for them & then you can subjectively review as the above is based on the usual Plasma, LED LCD differences

Plasmas 600Hz Sub-field drive is not the same as LCD´s 120Hz. With 120Hz, LCD´s try to avoid blur during fast pace scenes (motion blur), while Plasmas with 600HZ Sub-Field drive allow for the whole 1080 lines to be "shown" for the lack of a better word.
