Default Collection Obsolete

Hello,

I am currently in the process of backing up all my 1000+ DVDs and converting them to mkvs for use on my home theater. However - a thought occurred to me - will all my copies of the movies become obsolete in the future if and when they are re-released on Blu-Ray. Will all movies ever made by eventually re-released on Blu-Ray? Is it worth waiting for everything to be re-released? Will my copies of the movies look crappy on future TVs/projectors due to a progressing industry?

Thanks

In the end it is up to you if DVD quality is acceptable. Personally, before I started watching BD I thought that I would be able to live with DVD quality, but now I don't consider my DVD library at all. I would spend the $ and time on BD instead of building a media server or growing my DVD collection.

Not every film released on dvd will have a blu release. Many good films are still only available on vhs.

I say back them up. If you later want to buy the same movies on blu-ray do it on a case by case basis.

Can't be bothered backing up old DVD films, I got rid of most via E-bay only a 20+ left, concentrating on Blu now!

Maybe do a search of all the movies and find out which ones are available on Blu-Ray and which ones aren't and likely won't be available for some time. Back up the latter DVD's and buy the others on Blu-Ray.

Not a bad idea, especially if there liable to go out of print.

Is there a way to upconvert those MKVs? Otherwise they will not look as good as playing the DVDs on an upconverting player.
