Dish Network has more HD channels, and much better PQ. We have had problems with it otherwise, but I think it is more an isolated problem. I would recommend them over DirecTV.

*edit* DirecTV (sorry that's what I always hear it as -> DTV)...never had a problem in over 10 years...and very rarely fails due to clouds/rain... I don't have a problem with the DVR's operation. They continue to improve on it's functionality...it'll never be Tivo though

I have had Dish Network for a few months now. I switched over from Comcast. I realy like it and am happy I made the switch. I am currently running two HD boxes and a HD DVR box off of one sat. I am told I can add another if I wish. My father in law has Direct TV and is constantly having issues with their hardware he is also thinking of making the switch to Dish. I am also happy with my bill given I am saving quite a bit over Comcast.

They both charge too much but still better than cable prices..

I use to have DISH but ended up watching less and less and finally cancelled.. I now watch TV through the internet with Play ON Media Server software on my Playstation 3 for free.. and also use PS3 Media Server software to watch any non blu ray movies in my collection from my PC.

Playon gives me all kinds of stuff to watch on my PS3. There is Netflix for Movies History Channel type stuff, HULU for TV Shows/Movies, Amazon VOD, and a huge list of other plugins like CNN, SpikeTV, etc etc.. who needs cable/dish..

I put the money I save from Dish into buying Blu Ray Movies / TV Series instead.

I have had Dish for over 10 years. Excellent picture quality and sound (as long as there is no bad thunderstorm). Great HD! WAY better menu system! It just works.

I have Dish Network and have never been disappointed by the picture quality. My Sister has Direct and its just as good from what I can tell. Dish has always been cheaper and that's why I go with them, plus I have good service so I stay.

For starters, get DirecTV; you get more for your money.

I'm moving in a month and am also stuck between Dish and DirectTV. I've seen a lot of good reviews fro Dish's DVR but how is DirectTV's hardware?

A co-worker of mine said that you can get DirecTV to add-on things for a low price (or free) because they want your business. For example, he got HBO free for a year....Does anyone have any experience with getting the Satellite companies to give you things for signing up or sticking with them?

Dish for me. Been with Direct TV, switched to Dish. Beter PQ, more HD channels and cheaper price.
BTW, last month they lowered my payments, I didn't call or ask, just got the notice.
