I just purchased Pulp Fiction from JB Hi Fi in Sydney, (Nov. 4th 2009). Can confirm that the disc is encoded for all Blu-Ray regions, (I have a multi-region Blu-Ray player). People from outside Australia who may wish to purchase the title can do so by following this link:
http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/d...blu-ray/461550 or for the more expensive "Briefcase" Edition: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/d...blu-ray/461549 At present, the regular edition is showing as out of stock on the JB Hi Fi website. However, as I purchased it in store a few days ago, it's likely to be back in stock very soon. The purchase cost for the regular edition is Australian Dollars, $25.00, equivalent to US Dollars, $23.00. Add about US $7.30 for shipping to North America. I've watched the main feature a couple of times and the image quality is good, but not perfect. Object detail is very good, as is colour saturation and black levels. The transfer is marred by frequent very small white flecks, which lessen in degree as the film progresses. There's a little Telecine wobble at one point, and some mild Aliasing present during one very short sequence. The feature has both DTS HD Master and Dolby Digital 5.1 English language audio tracks. English language subtitles are also available. All the Special Features from the most recent Standard Definition DVD release are included on both Blu-Ray editions. Please note: I'm not sure whether the Special Features are encoded in PAL or NTSC, (they are Standard Definition ports; of that I am sure). Prospective purchasers in North America should take this into consideration. The image quality and audio quality is a clear step up from the existing DVD releases, and in my view, worth the purchase price. However, it remains to be seen what Disney/Buena Vista does for the North American market. |
