Default Piranha (1978) coming to Blu-ray 4/6/2010

DVD Drive-in reports that Shout! Factory will be releasing a special edition of the Roger Corman classic on DVD and Blu-ray for April 6 2010. I can't wait for this one. One hell of a fun movie.

They should release Piranha 2 right now to coincide with Avatar being released.

Piranha 2 was lucky to even get a DVD release, but I really don't think we will ever see a blu-ray. It's funny, James Cameron was on Conan O'Brian the other night and Conan showed a clip from the movie and it got a big laugh. It's great to see Mr. Cameron can joke about it and seems to have no hard feelings about it.

For those that don't know, this is being released to promote the upcoming "Piranha 3-D".

This is about the only good things about re-makes. We get the classics in HD!! Day one purchase for me.

I started to highlight the ones I also wanted. But damn, bring em all on.

Also Piranha will be a day 1 purchase for me. I hope whoever it was that gets offended seeing people post day 1 purchase doesn't read this.

I could think of some classics that I would prefer to have precedence over Piranha (like Star Wars, Forbidden Planet, Blues Brothers, and Animal House), but what the heck, bring it on.

Since Shout Factory doesn't own the rights to any of those, they are releasing what they can.

I hope SHOUT also releases the other Corman films on Blu-Ray also... same with Kingdom of the Spiders. That needs a Blu Ray release also. (mentioned it cause Shout is also releasing the DVD soon)

Love "Kingdom of the Spiders", I sure the shout DVD will be better than the Goodtiimes release from a few years back! Of course to have the blu-ray would be better!

Yes, it would be nice if the other Corman films come out on blu-ray. Maybe they are waiting to see how well Piranha sells.

+1

Interesting to see a script by John Sayles, based on Seven Samurai, special effects work by James Cameron, where he met production manager Gale Anne Hurd (and eventually married)... lotsa big names on such a weird little indie.
