Default Blu-Ray Drive in MacBook Pro in 2007?

Hey there,

I am a firm supporter of Apple and their Mac's and iPod - and I was very glad they brought out the new MacBook Pro recently - as it is the best Laptop there is out there - everything you could want in one.

Yet I am going to wait for the next revision, expected in early 2007 with the new Intel Merom Processor and Mac OS X Leopard installed. Nonetheless, I am hoping that they will include a Blu-Ray drive in it - as this seems feasible due to the fact that Blu-Ray is being launched this May.

What are the chances of it including a Blu-Ray drive in early 2007. To me they seem pretty high, yet I would love to hear other peoples opinions who know more about this than me - or at best, and expert on the topic who would be able to give me a high-probability answer. Apple's support for the medium shows they will include it, it's just a case of when!

Thanks

Ben

Cool Doubt before late 2007

I doubt Apple would include a BD drive before late 2007.

Any new drive would have to
1) read and write CDs (or lose current functionality)
2) read and write dual layer DVDs (or lose current functionality)
3) be slot loading, not tray loading (or require a thicker laptop than they currently ship)
4) at least read dual layer BDs (I believe by mid 2007 dual layer BD will be the de facto standard and single layer will be rare)

I doubt all 4 will be possible before late 2007. I would be very pleasantly surprised if I am wrong and Apple's machines start shipping in spring 2007 with all 4 capabilities. (This would almost definitely mean you could get similar drives/setups from other vendors too!)

That all said, I would guess first calendar quarter of 2008 would almost be a certainty.

If apple makes a blu-ray enabled laptop or dual-player hd-dvd/ blu-ray enabled laptop, than im definitely buying it.
