Default How many people have you either sold or converted to blu?

I have convinced 4 people to make their first foray into the high def world via blu. 3 of which purchased PS3's and the other went with the Pioneer elite. This was all in the last 2 months.

I believe they are also members of this forum now.

How about anyone else? need to keep spreading the word...

For the most part I just give people the facts and let them decide for themselves.

A couple I times I have recommended the Toshiba HD-A2 over an upconverting DVD player (For the difference in price I think its well worth it). And I have a few friends that have the HD DVD add on for their 360 and I've talked to them about blu-ray recommending they get a player if they've been happy with their HD DVD's.

If someone does ask me though which one they should get and they want an answer and not just facts on the both, I simply tell them to get both.

I have my house up for sale, and during our sit down with the realtor he kept checking out my tv. After we talked, he asked how I had such a good picture. My wife kind of laughed and gave me the "Dont start" face, but I had to show off. Put in a few BDs, and hooked him. He went out the following weekend and bought a Samsung player. So, officially one for me so far.

I have helped three friends to go Blu, not a hard sell when they come over and check out the ps3, a few games and then a couple movies.

I worked with a guy last night who has a PS3. I asked him how many blu-rays he has. He said "none" because he does not have an HDTV. I informed him that blu-rays can be played in SD on an SDTV and that it is a waste of money to buy regular DVDs. I told him that for $5 more he could buy blu-rays and would be able to play them now in 480 and in 1080 when he upgrades his TV. He agreed. + 1 more blu-ray purchaser.

I'd be hesitant to give this kind of advice to anyone. The important question is how long will it be before they invest in an HD TV? and where do they use their DVD's? If its going to be awhile and they use DVD's in many places, they might still be better off going the DVD route. And by the time they get that TV, titles they want in blu might only be $15.

I have sold many people on Blu-ray. I do it constantly, and I do not work in sales. I just chat with them when I am out in the stores like Best Buy or Costco and they have questions about what the formats are and which is better.

Usually, the real clincher is when I ask them if they like Disney films. The answer is almost always a resounding "YES!!!", and therein lies the answer. You can talk specs and picture quality all you want - but what it really comes down to is what movies everyone wants to watch in hi-def. When they are told that Disney is exclusively Blu, the answer is immediately clear.

Great question btw. I used to work for Circuit city in the TV area. Many of customers would want a high def DVD player for their new TV (obviously, why wouldn't you) I would always ALWAYS recomend BLU RAY! People would complain about the prices of the players compared to HD DVD! My response would always be "lesser quality, lower price" Then I would ask them what their favorite movie was, nine times out of ten it would be a movie from FOX, I said perfect you want BLU! Then we would chit chat and send them on their way with a new BLU player.....Fast forward three weeks I would always see these people in buying BLU RAY movies!

Blu-ray can pretty much sell itself but somtimes some people need a nug in the right direction. I have shown a few people what there ps3 can be used for. Once they watch one blu ray movie its all over

Ok, I'm a Blu-ray lover too, but saying HD DVD is "lesser quality, lower price" is not fair. You really should be impartial as a sales person.

When my friends ask, I explain that the image and sound quality between both formats are negligible, but the studio question is the best way to lean them towards the format that best suits them.

Nice fun thread. Good work.

I did talk to a couple of guys at work briefly, but not sure they are ready to bite. Talked to another work friend just a while ago. He really seemed impressed with the fact you can upgrade the firmware to fix the issues. A PS3 is now on his Christmas list.

Some of you know I am a BIG advocate of firmware upgrades. It's a great way of qwelling the qualms and fears they may have over BD player issues. "Firmware updates you can do yourself keep your player like new."

haven't had anyone to buy into blu-ray quite yet, HD isn't a big concern in my circle of friends and family, i only have 2 friends that even have an HDTV. but i have saved them and a couple other people from falling into the "HD-DVD is cheaper" trap, as far as i kow they've decided to wait it out a few more months or save up for a S300 or PS3 instead.
i guess you could say i haven't exactly convinced anyone that BD is the way to go, but i have convinved a few people that HD-DVD is the much riskier investment.

Four for me. Two of them already had PS3s, and only needed a "little" nudging. Talked the other two into making a commitment to blu... They actually have proffered their thanks...

I'm a Blu-Ray supporter, but I'm not going to tell anyone how to spend their own money. If someone asks my opinion on the matter, I just give them the facts--which, in the case of Blu-Ray, usually speak for themselves.
