Default For those still whining about Die Hard...

...And threatening to "Boycott Fox and all the turncoat evil they stand for"--

Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss Bill Hunt's latest front page on Digital Bits.com for 9/7:
Quote:
We've got an update for you on the studio's forthcoming Live Free and Die Hard Blu-ray (due on 11/20). We've confirmed that the disc will include only the PG-13 theatrical cut of the film. This has upset some fans, who are aware that the studio is releasing an uncut version of the film on DVD the same day. The reason for the decision is that the uncut version was finished by the director only AFTER completing all the theatrical press junkets and promotional appearances for the film. Unfortunately, this was too late to complete compression and authoring for the Blu-ray version in time to meet street date. So the studio was basically faced with the choice of delaying the title or releasing the theatrical cut only day and date with the DVD. So that's the reason it's PG-13 only.
(...Those cunning Fox weasels!--They came back with a REAL REASON why they backstabbed us! Are we going to stand for that??)

Well I guess that means I'll be buying Die Hard 1-3 and renting 4 for the time being.

I mean, I KNOW I'm going to buy the unrated as soon as it comes out...why double dip. It's not a boycott, it's sensible use of my money.

Exactly my thinking.

Maybe Fox should have just delayed it on Blu.

I agree.

I'm buying the Die Hard 1-3 boxset, but I'll wait for the Unrated LFOTH.

I'll probably be buying both. I can't wait to see this again, and I'll just Netflix the SD Unrated version to see if it's worth the double dip. Life's too short to deny myself just to save 25 bucks.

What is so important about a man saying F U in a movie? Will there be any less action? I for one don’t mind the pg-13 rating. It only means me and my family can watch it together.

I was so glad that they had a family friendly version of crank, I applaud Liongates for releasing a decent version that I can watch.

I’ve been coming to this site for sometime now but this is my first post, and I must admit from what I notice a lot of us complain too much. The important thing is that Fox is no longer worrying about BD+ or canceling dates but actually releasing movies.

If Fox decided not to release this movie because they couldn’t get it compress in time, then the majority of us would have another complaint. Another thing Warner release a lot of movies with crappy audio options (superman) but how many of us are complaining that they might bring out another version with PCM audio.

I think as Blu-Ray supporters we should show our support to Blu-ray studios and not give them any reason to be curious about the other side.

And I will...by buying Die Hard 1-3, Robocop, Edward Scissorhands, Simpsons, I Robot, Master and Commander, Independance Day and maybe even a few more.

Sorry, I'm not going to buy something I don't want...to support Blu-Ray. There's far too much I DO want to buy something I don't want to pay for. I'm sure the other 30-40 movies I buy is more than enough to cover my support.

That being said...I don't think Fox should've delayed this for the unrated. But I don't buy things to support companies...I buy things to feed my movie addiction and if that ends up meaning support...then that's great. But I don't use my money for no other reason than supporting multi-billion dollar corporations. I have to be pleased with what I get in return.

This is exactly why it was a good reason not to release a "quadrilogy" for the US market. This way we can just get the box set of the first three movies, then buy the 4th one when a real version comes out.

Buying all 4. Thought Live Free or Die Hard was plenty good in the theatre with a PG-13. I'll probably rent the unrated DVD just to compare but has there really been any info about how much was added? All they have to do is change one thing and they can call it unrated.

Yes, that's right: You're feeling grudged and holding out, because one ancient and overexposed 90's movie-franchise cliche' got fudged over by an explosion...

...Well, why should we argue with the disk-buying public?

According to this retailer, Australia is getting the Unrated version right off the bat.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/796533

If this is the case, Fox has some explaining to do.

That seems to be launching in Oz about a month later than the US date. The US date is day and date release with the DVD.

One month or even one week can determine which encode makes the deadline. Hopefully Fox will offer some sort of rebate if you want to buy the uncut version, or do a free exchange that SPHE did with TFE.

There's "unrated" and then there's "extended edition"...i prefer the latter.
Usuially the former has something like between 5-8 extra minutes which really
doesn't change much but if it were extended it'd be 15-50+ extra minutes.

Sure i'd be interusted in a more violent, with longer fights, stunts and a foul mouthed hero but if all it is a fouler mouthed hero with really nothing else
there's a word for that FILLER...well i want SUBSTANCE.

It's a "to be watched" development but remember AVP directors was only 8 min
longer which is pretty sad because you know it's still chopped to hell.
