Default Artifacting in Troy: DC - It's clear this HD DVD level bitrate crap isn't working

Is it any coincidence that the artifacts appear when the bitrate is lowered to a pathetic 7.9 mbps?!??!?!? Of course not... It's a DIRECT RESULT of the bitrate being lowered to 7.9 mbps.

There's other scenes like this as well... Encoding to the lowest common denominator just really isn't cutting it any more... Especially for a 3 hour 16 minute epic. Ridiculous.

Looks like it's on his PS3... And it wouldn't matter because WB uses the same transfer for both.

Snail mail to Warner with a picture of the artifacting. Tell them that while it's good that they are supporting both formats, they need to maximize the encoding of the main feature to each format's strength.

It's Blu, but they use the same exact encode for both, so yes, it will exist on both versions.

Here's that thread I was talking about. I haven't totally watched the whole movie (doing so tomorrow night with some friends) so when I tested it, it was in the day time. But I still didn't say it was perfect like some other people did.

Yeah, actually it is, otherwise I wouldn't have posted anything about it. Why are you being satisfied with a flawed release that could have been preventable by not encoding to the lowest common denominator's spec?

Overall the PQ is indeed superb, but still, the fact that artifacts exist, when they could easily be prevented by encoding to BD's strengths, makes me disappointed in the release.

Sorry didn't see your post, Plasma or LCD? I'd be really interested if that was on an LCD. (i have both and my Plasma gets riddled with it.) If you get a chance it might be worth checking out.

That's weird... people started saying that this is the best picture ever just yesterday... There's even a thread about it.

Technically a 50gb disc... with 30gb taken up...

EDIT: Actually, I take that back. This does have PCM track on it so it might be a little more than 30gb.

While I didn't see any blue cubes appear on my screen, there were times when I did see the picture blur and turn into tiny cubes on the sides of peoples faces. Most noticeably when Helen and Paris are talking in one scene (I think it was after the love scene). While it wasn't a huge deal, it was frustrating knowing that it could be better. I got a Blu Ray player for the best picture possible, not so it could be dumbed down to hd-dud standards.

How about this...

Sony takes a ~3 hr movie of theirs and allows it to be put on HD DVD, claim they are testing the waters. If HD DVD takes the bait the limits of HD DVD will be there for all to see, the BD version will sell better and Sony says that the smaller HD DVD sales aren't worth it. If they don't take the offer then they're yeller.
