Question Onkyo or Pioneer Elite?

First off, I have searched and found many threads on Receivers, and I know from first hand experience that the 605 is a great receiver.....But I am in the process of setting up another system in my loft..and I am going to probably spend more on the receiver than the 605...so, I want to know if there is anything that makes one or the other of these better

the Onkyo 805 or the Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH?

Thanks!

I'm quite enjoying my 91TXH. A lot smoother sound than my old Yamaha with the same Klipsch speakers (Yeah, I know, Yamaha and Klipsch, but I wasn't as educated as I am now), pretty easy to use, looks nice, video quality is great. I'd definitely recommend it.

I personally like Pioneer Elite Receivers. (I use to have an Onkyo 604, now have an Elite 81)

But the Onkyo brand is also kick ass and the 805 can do it all just about...but I still prefer Pioneer. Thats my .02 cents.

Default Pioneer

I've had my Pioneer Elite 45 receiver hooked up to my M&K 5.1 surround since 2003. I have been extremely happy with the results. I'm building a house where I will have two "theaters" and my current system is going up in the loft. I have to purchase a new receiver for the downstairs family room to drive my built-in JBL 7.1 surround speakers.

People tend to stick with what they know and like, so my plan is to buy another Pioneer Elite. I don't know if the others come with the automatic adjustment microphone, but I put it in the sweet spot (where I sit) and have it calibrate the room from time to time. It seems to work great.

My speaker set up is going to be 7.1 just because I have the money to do it, not because I think it is necessary. Honestly I think 5.1 is plenty for most rooms and properly balanced, you can have a very nice home theater system without the extra speakers.

I'm interested in other, more experienced opinions, but I'm both looking forward to my 7.1 system, but also really wondering if I will be able to notice it or not.

I'm also looking forward to seeing my first Blu-Ray movie someday. When we buy the new plasma and receiver, I'm sure we will have to get a new DVD player to make the whole system worthwhile.

Onkyo gives you features for the money, Pioneer gives you quality for the money. Not to mention they are also feature rich. Definitely say the Pioneer on my vote!!!

Question Pioneer question

Does anyone with the Pioneer know . . .

Does it have an auto-calibration feature with a microphone like the Denons have?

I'm also thinking about a new receiver, but don't want to lose that feature.

..and this Pioneer receiver looks a lot better than Onkyo IMHO.

Yes Pioneer comes with Auto MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration Circuit) with supplied Microphone.

That's a great reason to buy one or the other.

Yes it has the auto-calibration with a mic. They have their own patented technology called MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration) for it as a matter of fact.
I love Pioneers and will be upgrading my VXS-1016TX to one of the new Elites that just came out. Either the VSX-92TXH or the VSX-94TXH.

I heard there were some issues with Deep Color support on the Onkyo via HDMI. I don't see wether the Pioneer supports it completely either. Anybody else know.

Not that it matter now. But to future proof your investment.

Anyone know a timetable for non-elite versions?

I'd love the Elite, but the Onkyo is about at the top of my reciever pricerange. I'm a Pioneer man through and through though, so would MUCH rather have that

I think it'll be a while for non-Elite line receivers from Pioneer to even be capable of HDMI switching, let alone be able to receive DTS-HD MA and Dollby TrueHD in bit stream form. My VSX-1016TX is only an HDMI pass-through receiver and it's successor the VSX-1017TX is no different. And this receiver is the last regular model before the Elite series.

I've seen the cheapest new Elite model, the VSX-91TXH sell brand new online for as low as $650 shipped. That's a pretty good price for an Elite receiver. The only downside, it only has 2 HDMI inputs. For 3 or more HDMI inputs you'll have to upgrade to the 92TXH or 94TXH at a considerable price increase.
