Default AVS Blu-ray reawakening

Its funny this week, most of the posts are being dominated by bluray supporters. So maybe those of you who were tired of AVS should go and make a splash.

I'd rather they just lock and archive the HDTV Software Media Discussion section. It's a breeding ground for idiocy.

Once AVS made it clear to people that the site would let Microsoft employees do anything they wanted with no recrimination it became unreadable. Now it's nothing more than HD DVD shills & viral marketers preaching to the choir. I just hope that it doesn't spill over into the non-HD sections which are still highly readable.

While I don't agree with everything they do (or disagree with everything), I think they did crack down somewhat. I know somebody here reported one of Amir's postings getting deleted. The rule about insiders not trashing the other side probably upset him quite a bit and I don't think he was allowed quite the latitude after that. Still seems like some of them want to keep people from being able to talk about the truth about his job changes within Microsoft (which I think are relevant to this war after he made himself such an important player in it), but at least they don't seem to allow him to trash the other side as much. Although now that he isn't officially an insider I'm not sure what they'll do, as it seems like he was still getting to answer questions like an insider in the insiders thread, last time I looked.

I saw some complaining yesterday where Lee Stewart got banned for 24 hours, so I don't think their bannings and warnings are all one sided, as it might look to people on each side.

Hehe, I actually learned a couple things in there today. I'm not sure how useful it will ever be to find creative ways for proving that 49 is somehow greater than 51, but if the need arises then I'm prepared.

Also, I learned that dobyblue suxx0rz

Seriously though, I can't believe the stuff that gets thrown around over there. It's unfortunate too. As someone else mentioned, the rest of their forum areas are very helpful if you need help with equipment and such. The High-def media forum is a total waste of time other than for purposes of comic relief.

Going to the AVS HD section definately has its entertainment value. For example...

"I hear people talking about how BR won but thinking back when the BOGO deal at CC for HD DVD's (which wasnt suppose to happen) they came up as BR disc sales. Thats what I seen when the cashier rang me out.

I support both so I could care who wins what week. But did thats sales count towards BR sales and get counted in the #'s??

Just wondering."

I wish I could make up something like this and say it with a straight face!

Indeed. Someone needs to get that Nash guy from "A Beautiful Mind" to look into that. It is definitely the most amazing mathematical 'proof' that I've ever seen. And it must be way over my head, because I don't even understand the possibility... much less the proof.

I peruse AVS (got my first warning and infraction the other day), and I really only post there if I feel like getting into a long debate. The problem is the lack of moderation, as the Blu-ray forums (much moreso than the HD-DVD forums) are overrun by trolls and "neutral" members without a hint of neutrality and they are allowed to disrupt and sidetrack the threads at their leisure. So . . . I try not to get bothered by their shit talking (it seems like there are a lot less intelligent people in the HD-DVD forums (less intelligence = less money = settling on HD-DVD? Hmmmm ) in reading the posts). That's not to say Blu-ray doesn't have its fair share of idiots. I'm confident I chose the winning format and I don't really have to defend my opinion. If HD-DVD does indeed meet its end at Blu-ray's hands, it'll be an interesting day at AVS.

I was very disappointed in AVS for some of the same reasons as you BStecke but I skipped warnings from Mods.I told one of there great moderatores to throw me off server for everyone to see in thread because I was fed up reading bull that they supported.

My Take on AVS,
If you aren't in the Kuro Mafia There mine is better then yours crap starts in threads with mods shutting members up that dont go Kuro. The thread aways ends up with Pio getting the last post of Postive 99% of the time to protect valuable Pio advertisers that headline there site.
If you support blu-ray you have idiots dropping in threads telling you there's no benefit because most Plasmas on the market are 720p so it all looks the same .. go HD-DuD. Lets not forget they have fat ugly HD-DuD Advertising all over the place in there forums.

P.S
AVS needs to rename there site,
KMF = "Kuro Multi format"
There Slogan = "Go kuro with HD-DuD And Buy 720p or get out"

avs is good for non hdm related stuff. hdd.com is good for a little smack talking with the tools there. and occasionally good to have an adult conversation with the 1 or 2 grown ups there.

It's nice to see Blu supporters over there, but I do not get why people even venture into the HD section. AVS has a lot of senior 1000+ post members that are bordering on mental retardation posting a lot of FUD. They should be taken out back like Old Yeller.

Honestly, I saw one guy post a thread (something along the lines), and I shit you not: "Blu-ray losing ground: From 70/30 to 50/50"

The Texan kinpumper was then informed what a statistical outlier was, and that such a result is eliminated when drawing a conclusion. I even gave him the retard 101 link to Wikipedia for what an "outlier" was.

Instead of the thread being placed in a hall of shame for a senior AVS member to look like a G.E.D. dropout for eternity, the Mods deleted the thread. Where is the justice?

Plus that Amir is given preferential status. I'm sure I could quote a David Letterman line on that one, if you know what I mean.
