Default FX's "Tyrant" (Season 3)

Here's a bunch of articles about it.

http://www.deadline.com/?s=tyrant

Here's what is known:

Pilot will be directed by David Yates

Ang Lee previously signed on to direct and EP, but dropped out.

Produced by Howard Gordon & Gideon Raff (Homeland) and David Fury (24)

Key actors:

Adam Rayner
Jennifer Finnigan
Justin Kirk

They are currently filming this in Morocco.

Synopsis:

Tyrant, from Homeland executive producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff and Six Feet Under alum Craig Wright. It tells the story of an unassuming American family — Barry (Adam Rayner); his strong, smart and idealistic wife Molly (Finnigan); and their kids Emma (Anne Winters) and Sammy (Noah Silver) — drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle East nation.

I'm going to bet this comes out Summer or Fall 2014. It depends on how fast FX greenlights it after the Pilot is shot.

If FX greenlights it, I think we can expect to see a trailer by Winter or Spring 2014.

I'm interested based on the producers alone, but this will be the third show Howard Gordon will be working on if you count the new 24.

FX seems to have a lot shows that could be made.

Seems like this could be more accessible for me than Homeland.

Howard Gordon is producing Homeland, Legends (Summer 2014), 24 (Summer 2014) and probably this if it gets picked up. That's 4 shows. He's got a really busy plate. However, Craig Wright will be the showrunner. So Gordon won't have to be on set.

The interesting thing too is David Fury will be working on this show and the new 24 as well.

Bump

Premieres tonight on FX

Anyone planning to check this out? I know it's gotten mixed viewers from TV critics and has had alot of behind the scenes problems as well.

The behind the scenes problems are covered pretty well in this article.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ckstory-709209

Here's the plot summary for episode 1:

Quote:

Season One - Episode Descriptions

Episode 1 / Production #178 - "Pilot" (Airs June 24, 10:00 pm e/p) - Barry Al-Fayeed is a California pediatrician who also happens to be the second son of a Middle Eastern dictator. Barry reluctantly agrees to return home with his American family for his nephew's wedding. Events thrust him into the complex and turbulent growing pains of a nation straining to break free from dictatorial rule. Written by Gideon Raff; directed by David Yates.

All the previews I've seen during Fargo never interested me at all, and the very negative reviews cement me not watching this.

The promos do nothing for me. I'm passing on this.

This wasn't bad at all. Sure, it wasn't a masterpiece, but I thought it was a pretty compelling Pilot and set up the series well. Surprised it ran 82 minutes.

The weakest parts were definitely Bassam's wife and kids. Hopefully that gets toned down somewhat in future episodes that Howard Gordon oversees. I like Jen Finnigan, but Molly was kind of written like an annoying hag like Brody's wife on Homeland. Adam Rayner wasn't bad as the lead.

The strongest parts IMO was Bassam dealing with his brother, the flashbacks and the political elements.

That introduction to Jamal was interesting to put it lightly.

[Show spoiler]

Raping that woman with his entourage watching the husband and kids in the next room.

I think the TV critics were a little too harsh with this one. I also get that FX promos didn't really help sell this show very well, so some of you didn't feel the urgency to see this.

It really needs to develop a good balance between the political drama and family drama for it to work. I'm in for the next 9 weeks. I think the Pilot was strong enough to sell me on this show and it's potential. Sure, this premise probably isn't going to appeal to everyone, including the casual tv fans here. FX has hardly produced any drama bombs and I don't think this is one of them.

Btw, the Morocco scenics were gorgeous. I liked David Yates directing, but I wonder had Ang Lee stayed on if the show's style would have been any different.

2.1M viewers and 3.46M viewers with the re-air. That's a pretty solid start for a new drama with a mostly no name cast.

For a show that isn't getting alot of rave reviews and interest in forums like this is kind of lukewarm, that is much better than expected.

FX expects higher numbers with DVR playback factored.

Did anyone else watch or are most of you still hesitant to try this or add this to your schedule?

The Pilot is pretty long at 82 minutes with commercials.

I looked at the Tyrant Facebook page with over 66,000 likes right now and the reactions are mostly positive.

I decided to pass on this one. Just couldn't work up enough enthusiasm, and I have enough on my TV plate that I have to find a new show's premise compelling to add it to my schedule.

I figured that if the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, I might try it anyway, but they weren't, so I'm not.

I watched it. I thought it was interesting. Not bad, but not great either. The wife and kids were extremely annoying. The interaction with the brothers, and Jamal in general, I found to be the highlight of the show.

Same here. I was originally going to record it, but after considering my watchload, decided not to.

I watched it. I liked it. The wife and kids were terrible. When the son got slapped I cheered.

I thought episode 2 was really good.

They focused more on the political element and sibling rivalry between Bassam and Jamal. The wife and kids weren't really a factor here.

There was a kidnapping and a surprising execution in this episode as well plus some interesting back story about Bassam.

I think the TV critics who gave this show negative remarks were being way too hard on it. It's a lot better than what they led you all to believe.

This is basically Dallas meets The Godfather in the Middle East.

To be frank, that doesn't make it sound any more enticing.

Well you've pretty much made up your mind that you have zero interest in this. I wasn't trying to sell you on this. This was strictly my thoughts.

Seeing little snippets of Barry's backstory was good.

So is it safe to assume that the son isn't into females? Lol
