Default Why do men let women control their electronics purchases?

Seriously, I was talking to a guy at Best Buy and he told me about 50% of all HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players purchased by men are usually returned by the guy the next day with the story of how the GF/wife made him bring it back. The other day at Circuit City a wife (she had a ring) got mad at her husband for spending 1500 on a new TV.....she even said out load, "What retard spends $1500.00 on a TV"? Why do so many women get upset over their men buying gadgets yet they go out and buy a $100 dress that cost maybe 15 bucks to make?

Sound like a bunch of whipped pussies to me. If my wife/gf did that to me, they'd become my ex-wife/gf very quickly.

Guess she would be a little more upset if he bought a a $2700 projector, new $1000 receiver, and a $444 panny bd30.

exactly. they control what we want the most, so many guys give up control of everything else so its not taken away. what I did was showed her the credit card statement and told her that i'm going to spend the same amount on my ht as she'd spent on clothes, shoes, hair styles, going out with friends etc. I paid for my whole setup including bds in 2 years, for the same as what she spent in 1 year. a side affect has been that she now spends less because she sees what awesome stuff you can get when you don't spend $20 a day on lunch, buy a pair of shoes and matching purse every week, etc etc.

and any guy who can't convince his woman to keep the bd player is an idiot anyway. its probably mostly hd dvd fans that return them. hell my wife even likes to check our folding@home standings and asks ''is this movie on blu ray? I want to get it.''

besides, if she can hold out on you for any reason you must not be doing something right to begin with. which may be why she's mad at you in the first place. god i'm sexist.

This type of situation is very simple. You guys must draw th line in the sand upfront. My old lady knows there are a few things that are not negotiable:
Fishing
Hunting
A/V

I know there are some things she has/does that are not negotiable either.

That being said, you have to be reasonable about it. She knows the stuff that is not negotiable, but at the same time I don't abuse it by going nuts in those specific areas either. She does the same.

At the end of the day, it's not about ***** or some ridiculous game. It's about mutual respect for each other's passions and idiosyncracies. If someone is asking you to change who you are (i.e. not "allowing" you to buy the A/V stuff that makes you happy, within reason of course), then I would suggest having a "sitdown" and revisiting the entire relationship because that's a harbinger of trouble ahead...

Guess there are alot of idiots out there according to Best Buy then LOL

For me I get what I want and if shes questions my purchase I remind her who brings home the big paycheck(then get her a little gift later and she forgets all about it)

I think if my GF was like that, there would be some major arguments going on. After all, I spend a lot on stuff I like, electronics, and BD's and gaming, and she spends several hundred dollars on clothes she "absolutely needs". She has much right to complain/control me on that as I do on her crazy clothes sprees, which take many days to finish.

Marriage/Living Together rule #1: NEVER (pay close attention to that word, it won't be repeated) have a joint banking account!!!

It's ruined more couples than you could possibly imagine. If your significant other has a problem with what you purchase, politely (key word) suggest that all the money they deposit into YOUR account you will be more than willing to take directions on how to liquidate those assets. Otherwise, stfu!

VERY true, I always told my GF when we get married that we will have joint account, but definitely will maintain our own separate accounts as well, just for that very reason.

well, I compensated my 30+ BD purchases within the past 2 months by taking my GF to the mall yesterday and giving her $250. She's happy now and no longer thinks "I have the problem". I told her I can have as many BD's as she has purses and shoes. And she still has A LOT more than me

Or you could go for the always classic pimp slap.

I think some of these guys are in the wrong marriages or have little to no communication with their wives. My wife knows what my hobbies are and knows that any electronic purchase has to go through me first. She will say she can not tell the difference between regular TV and HDTV, although she watches HD all the time and was amazed at Planet Earth.

I know there are priorities in life, but sometimes it costs more to spend less in the short run.

I think it's somewhat about communication, but when it comes down to it I think most girls just don't care. Or they don't understand so they throw up a defense and say they dont care. They dont understand why we spend so much on electronics and honestly I dont know why they spend so much on make-up. It's just a battle of the sexes that will never end. We should just accept it and move on

the problem isnt that women are this way. its actually our fault

think back tow hen ya'all first started dating and etc etc. you'd do anything to impress make her smile etc etc.

you put em in that state and they get to like it.

Start of a relationship with.. yo.. doo.. noot evvaa touch my tv.. things would be different down the road.

its like raising a kid. spoil em young and guess what when their 16 their not magically unspoiled.
