Theres no way those numbers are correct. The PS3 has been flying off the shelves.

I knew those numbers didn't look right. I remember reading somewhere that they were selling over 100K a week after the price drop and one of those weeks were around 200k.

Yeah the PS3 has been selling like hotcakes since the price drop. The Holidays are really helping too.

I wonder why it's so different from this:

Quote:
PlayStation 3 sales increased 285 per cent from October to November according to NPD Group sales data, marking the largest sales increase of any hardware platform.

Sony sold 466,000 PS3 consoles, 496,000 PS2 consoles, and 567,000 PSP handhelds in the US in November.

I have no idea what this thread is supposed to reflect! Last week (ending Dec 8) 160,000 PS3 consoles were sold in the US. A very nice number.

my concern is that while the PS3 sales are markedly up, the X-Box and Wii sales are also up at nearly the same ratio. Which means the PS3 is not really gaining much ground in market share. The way Sony was spinning the numbers, you'd think the PS3 was killing the X-Box 360, but the figures do not bear that. The X-Box is selling more than 50% higher than the PS3 every week.

They are selling 800,000 a month in Europe and 200,000 a month in Japan. I wouldn't call that shabby.

I'm not sure. Around here the PS3's are stacked up high and sitting on the shelves. Wii's are no where to be seen and people have a hard time getting their hands on one and the XBox360's have a few on the shelves but don't look to be moving all that much either.

People here in the US are buying PS3's for sure. Look at the disc sales and that says alot about how many players are out there.

What is really hard to find out there again this holiday season is the Wii. It seems like everystore I go into customers are trying to find this unit with no luck, empty shelves once again.

The 360's are limited in supply? Get real. The PS3 is doing well in sales and improved the most in sales increase. That is enough.

Wii's are nowhere to be found in Michigan, some 360's, many-many PS3's stacked up. Those numbers posted above dont look so hot for the PS3. Maybe when some exclusive titles come out it will boost sales?

800,000/month in Europe? Can you provide a source for this data point?

xbox cannot play hd dvds...you need to pay an extra $200 for that to happen.

comparing the 2 in sales, in this instance, is more a nuisance for sony than anything else.

Last week it sold about 200k in Europe, I think the original poster was using that number to imply it would sell 800k in a month. Which can be very real for December. To sustain that, now that would be something, but in reality sales will drop in January. http://www.vgchartz.com

My local Circuit City was completely out of 40G units this week, while it annoyed me since I had to go to another store to buy one it is a good sign for the PS3.

Not entirely true, while in the past few weeks the ratio stayed around 3:2 in favor of the 360, the PS3 IS gaining market share. These numbers looked much worse a few months ago, when the 360 was outselling the PS3 over 3:1 (or some weeks even 5:1), so the PS3 is catching up. And this is only for the US. If you take the other territories into considerations last week the PS3 actually sold more units worldwide than the 360! (417k vs 414k)
