I just got a tip off that Futureshop will be having a clearan...... I'm sorry, a "Boxing Day" sale on one of their HD DVD players! Apparently the unspecified unit retails for $399 and will be available for $99!!!
The question now arises, which model is it? And how many is each store limited to selling? LMAO! I can't get over how desperate Toshiba is getting!!! |

I dont like the fact that a $99 HD DVD player is being advertised on Blu-ray.com
![]() I understand its a sign of desprate times for Toshiba, but those weak individuals might be tempted by such "deals". ![]() I personaly cant wait to see clearance sales at major retail stores, like Best Buy & Circuit City. Its the only time cheap HD DVD players will put a smile on my face. |

![]() ![]() Wal-Mart has no specials on players (either side) but they have specials on movies: 2 Blu-Ray movies for 30$ and 18.83$ individual DUD movies = Blu-Ray wins again. There are a lot more Future Shop's in Canada then there are Best Buys --> even though they both have the same owners, Best Buys only started showing up in Canada 3 years ago. This is actually hilarious as this will set a new precedence for low prices for DUD in Canada and will wain interest from Canadians who will now expect to pay 99$ or less for DUD players. In any case, I expect many to get returned after this upcoming CES ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It is the HD-D3 and i think i will get one. What the hell $99.00 is an impulse buy, if i watch 20 films in the next year, that i can't get on Blu , it's worth it. bill |

If you can get one... and I guess that it's better in somebody's hands that clearly prefers Blu-ray over HD DVD than somebody who would go HD DVD exclusive as a consumer.

Well i could wait 2 or 3 years, like you, to watch those HD-DVD exclusive films or i could start watching them now. While i am not keen on three separate movie players i think i will get one, comes with 300 and The Bourne Identity as well.

But HD DVD titles can be bought on DVD and upconverted. Until then there are over 400 blu-rays avalable for me to watch for my Hi-def fix. Do you own all you want to see on Blu-ray? Doubt it. |

That's exactly what I did. I got one of the 12 that were available at my local Future Shops. The D3 is one of their newer slimline models that has the same chasis as the Venturer that Walmart sells. The $99.00 deal came with 2 movies in the box and 5 free on a mail in rebate. As the quote say's, I have it, prefer Blu, will always buy Blu when the same movies appear on both formats and only want to use it for the few blockbusters that are not available to Blu. Will it harm the format war? Not really, since I am Blu first.

If I have it, someone else that would support and buy the format would use it and buy more DUD movies than I will. It's costing them a lot for this subsidy. I player and 7 movies for under $100.00. Who would you rather have it? An HD DVD supporter or someone that's holding on to it and not using it much?

Oh, and the movies you can't yet get on Blu are available on DVD, and will be available on Blu when the war is over. |

Ah the format war.Up until the Paramount announcement i was waiting for Bluray to win before i bought a player, then that happened so we know that deal was for 18 months, so we know the war will last at least 18 more months so i dove in and bought a Sony s300 and i am now in double figures in films and i don't want to wait 2 years to watch Transformers and such in high def and even HD-DVD is far better than sd DVD.I continue to believe that Bluray is the better format and i hope they win but i remember Beta-VHS and Beta had better PQ and SQ and we know how that ended.
I admire your loyalty but the studios are not very loyal to you or me, it is all baout who writes the biggest check. bill |

I was thinking of making a post on this subject as well as I just read over the flyer. I won't be buying, as the $100 can be better spent on more Blu movies IMO
Anyway, thought I'd best to mention that they also have some Blu-ray movies on sale for $19.99 too(Apparently over 100 to choose from). Maybe I'll buy 5 instead of the HD-D3 They also have the Samsung BD-P1400 on sale for $299 and Sharp BD-HP20U for $349 |
