This is a door crasher special. I doubt the total number of players across the country will even break 3,000. Insignificant in the overall picture..

Edit: About 131 stores at about 20 per store = 2,620

Personally, I find neutrality selfish. I know there are a few movies on HD DVD that I would love to own, but I won't because it's (as some one above said) counter-productive.

If anything, buy the damn player and just rent the hd dvds. The war is bad enough with sell out studios, we don't need to blur the lines anymore than they already are.

The question now arises, which model is it? And how many is each store limited to selling? LMAO! I can't get over how desperate Toshiba is getting!!!
Why the hell would you want to a 1080i Toshiba hddvd player... i guess its fine if you have a 1080i tv. But why the hell would you buy 1080p movies and convert them down to 1080i. On boxing day at Futureshop bluray movies will be 19.99(I have seen the sale) I say spend your money on 5 bluray movies. Dont be a trader, stick to bluray.

Don't fret. This is actually funny as there are only 131 Future Shop stores in Canada and they are getting 20 per store which means 2620 new Duders and a WHOLE lot of people that will not buy DUD because they can't pick it up for 99$ (the next best thing will be 199$). Best Buy is selling the same player on boxing day for 199$ (the D3.... the "D" stands for DUD) ROTFLMAO NOBODY is going to buy a 199$ Dud

Wal-Mart has no specials on players (either side) but they have specials on movies: 2 Blu-Ray movies for 30$ and 18.83$ individual DUD movies = Blu-Ray wins again.

There are a lot more Future Shop's in Canada then there are Best Buys --> even though they both have the same owners, Best Buys only started showing up in Canada 3 years ago.

This is actually hilarious as this will set a new precedence for low prices for DUD in Canada and will wain interest from Canadians who will now expect to pay 99$ or less for DUD players. In any case, I expect many to get returned after this upcoming CES

Spend that $100 on more blus and wait patiently for the 20 films to appear on bluray. Why help hd-dvd's numbers?

Ha, i Get it....you're joking, Cuz backwards thinking has it's home down there right (Although, that's more on a political level)?

The HD-D3 isn't even an HD-DVD player, it's an Upconverting DVD Player, so don't fret, there is a Correction notice in stores and online on the online flyer portion of the site. So don't Worry. We're good.

LMAO!!! I had some real fun at FutureShop in downtown Vancouver today with fellow customers purchasing the HD DVD players that were on sale!!! I talked to about 10 or 12different people as though I was an HD DVD supporter to see what they had to say. EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM said that they were only purchasing it for the exact same 2 reasons!

#1. They'll be using it only as an upconverting DVD player so they don't put extra wear and tear on their Blu-ray players.

#2. 'Batman Begins' in Hi-Def... it was on sale for $19.99.

So, I proceeded to ask them (in an offended manner) why they don't let somebody have it who really wants to support the format. To which most responded, "If they wanted to support the format that badly, they would have been here to get one. Besides, I feel more comfortable knowing that there is one less player on the market to fuel the HD DVD software sales.' I never let on that I was a Blu-ray supporter! It was too funny!!!

It can only go up to 1080i according to the correction. Isn't the A3 capable of outputting at 1080p?

That's exactly what I did. I got one of the 12 that were available at my local Future Shops. The D3 is one of their newer slimline models that has the same chasis as the Venturer that Walmart sells. The $99.00 deal came with 2 movies in the box and 5 free on a mail in rebate. As the quote say's, I have it, prefer Blu, will always buy Blu when the same movies appear on both formats and only want to use it for the few blockbusters that are not available to Blu. Will it harm the format war? Not really, since I am Blu first.

Who would you rather have it? An HD DVD supporter or someone that's holding on to it and not using it much?

Yeah, yeah, I understand that logic, I just dont agree on your decision.
I myself would not bow to the red side if they gave away 20 movies with a $75 player.

Without getting argumentative Ill just say im disapointed every time I hear of a once Blu-supporter turning, thats all.

Any support of HD DVD is anti Blu-ray.
