I remember 100 dollar VHS tapes when they first hit the market. It was primarily a machine for rentals at the time.

I remember when Paramount dumped us and they kept saying wait until Transformers and then it came and we still won but they said they turned it around and now Warner and New Line are exclusive and maybe Para and Uni are next...(out of breath)...ah the good ol' days.

I remember back around high school when dvds started becoming the norm, one of my buddies was really pissed as he managed to build up a decent vhs library. Suffice to say, he's pissed once again.

I remember when Betamax first came out in the 70's. I was stationed in North Dakota with the Air Force. I bought the first 1-hour Sony machine for $1100 and a case of blank Sony 60-minute tapes. My first recording was an episode of M*A*S*H. Damn, to be able to record a television show right off the air was, well, amazing. PQ seemed, at the time, awesome.

I remember when we, askids, used to have to wait for the once a year viewing of The Wizard Of Oz, on TV - because back then there was no such thing as VHS or rentals for home use...and in school, it cost almost $100 to RENT a film on reels (usually 2 or 3 reels per film) - to be shown over three days time.

I can remember rushing home from school one day to greet the arrival of our Ferguson Videostar top-loading VHS player. My parents still have it I believe (though it's not in use )

I remember way back about 1985... I was an usher at Radio City Music Hall and working the lobby during the day, so it wasn't too busy. Freddy, a security guy, would come out and make conversation. He said he was waiting for high definition TV. Said he saw a demonstration of it someplace and they were playing the old Star Trek series. "Omg, you could see the makeup on Spocks face!"

Bought my first Panasonic VCR in 1986 and TRON was the first movie I purchased. Always pondered about HD TV in the back of mind. Didn't hear of it again until the very late 90's. In 2000 I wanted to become an HD TV adopter. But the TV's were very pricey and I was out of work.

Finally realized my dream early 2004, or was it 2003? A 34" Sony WEGA HDTV TUBE tv. Saw it at the local Military BX when I was away one weekend. It was marked way down, and I had this 10% coupon I was holding from the day I joined the Military in 1990! No expiration date and no restrictions. They accepted the coupon on top of the cut price! Got that set for something over $1400 and my friend drove it home for me in his truck 70 miles! Helped me carry it in. Tipped him a 20 and a bananna. I still came out ahead. Months later I spent almost 600 on the HD tuner box. I don't have cable and only received a few good HD channels. Months after that my friend sold me the "silver sensor" HD antenna for 20 bucks someone bought for $100! I figured what did I have to loose? Worked like a charm.

At the time tube TV was the best option because Plasmas suffered from burn-in, half-life dimming, and screen door effects. You needed to sell your body parts to get LCD which still suffered from poor color saturation. Both types still had poor display angles. The set weighs 200 lbs, but I bet it last up to 20 years!

I have bought 2 additional Silver Sensor's for the bedroom HDTV's my brother bought us. We get all the local digital channels. I LOVE PBS digital. Seriously, if that antenna doesn't work for you, you are just in a bad location.

i remember when blu-ray began outselling hd dvd in software and they said it was just a bubble that would pop.

i remember when they said that there $299 a2 father's day sale would cause hd dvd to make a comback.

i remember when they bought paramount and they said that now the momentum was with hd dvd and it would make a comeback for sure now.

i remember when player prices hit $199 and they said that this was the ideal consumer price point for mass adoption and now hd dvd would take off for sure.

i remember when they ran $98 firesales and sold 90k players and said now software sales would pick up for sure.

i remember when software sales didn't they said, its because they are all going to be given as gifts for xmas.

I remember when they accused blu-rays BOGOs of skewing the numbers, but then immediately started having their own BOGOs on brand new titles

i remember when they claimed that HP on hd dvd outsold HP on blu-ray and it was clear that HD DVD had come back and was now winning.

I remember when they had a complete meltdown at CES 08.

sorry, im to young for VHS/betamax and as a teenager didn't have the $ for DVD until the PS2 came out. so blu-ray is something that will certainly be a memory like vhs is to you guys.

I remember when VHS tapes were $100 for new releases. Which is what gave rise to the video rental store. It still amazes me they can stay open when movies sell for $10-20 each.

The price you mention was why I stayed with laserdisc rather than collected titles on VHS. Some VHS tapes were just too overpriced when the comparable laserdisc was $39.99 or less and you could watch them indefinitely rather than worrying about wearing out a tape.

Duck Hunt, that was a fun....Remember that glove that came along after that?

I remember buying my first DVD player in anticipation of SW IV coming out on DVD just to find out that Lucas only released it on VHS. It took what, a year after that and the uproar to get put on DVD?

I remember buying those $80 anime VHS tapes that only had 22 minutes of video on it... subtitled if you were lucky.
And seeing all those same shows in box sets on DVD for $40 today is insane!
