Angry Damn Customs

Ive bought over 90 BD from US BOGOF etc and have never been charged... most if not all for some reason have a German Postmark ...

I ordered 8 on the BOGOF of under the uk £18 per item threshold, but again because amazon have put the total none discounted price ive been hit with a £18.63 bill ... Ive refused to pay the postman who will hold onto it for a week...

Ive emailed amazon to ask to be credited for the charges .... will see what they come back with ...

Dick Turpin strikes again....

Amazon has always refunded me for these problems - in France the "receiver" has ot pay a tax if the package was not labelled correctly (price, weight, category - DVD, CD, book ... all boxes have to be checked). I think Amazon keeps a copy of the label, allowing them to check if they were the ones doing the mistake.

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com with your concern.

I would like to inform you that customs or import duties may be levied once the package reaches the destination country. Additional charges for customs clearance would have to be borne by the recipient; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be.

I apologize if the above information has caused any inconvenience.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us via the following link:

Thanks I was so angry I missed that ...

this was my reply

"The post Royal mail have said because of the way you have labeled it not showing the discount and individual items I have to pay on the full amount ... had it shown the correct infomation I would not have been charged as the individual amounts with the discount are under the £18 threshold
I have been a good customer because of your great customer service however in this instance I am very upset, please could you tell me how to obtain a refund if I dont accept the goods and the post office return to you as undelivered.

This has put me off ordering any further goods from you...

All my past orders have come via Germany and have not had to pay any charges despite how you have shown the info on the box . "

There is a simply answer to this.

Simply refuse delivery.

Email Amazon and they will send replacements (they are returned to amazon with charge). In the replacement Amazon put the full order value ($64) and did a CC charge/refund. But I got my discs a week later without the fees

You can also try this

http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthr...351900&page=18

The Post office have no legal right to with hold the package after you have paid for it and paid for delivery.

They are acting illegally.

Interesting reading
section 104 of the Postal Services Act

Basically they have to by Law give me my parcel they cant hold it ransom ...

any monies due can only be recovered seperate from the parcel itself by way of a civil recovery process ...

"Duties (whether of customs or excise) charged on imported goods or other charges payable in respect of postal packets to which this section applies (whether payable to a postal operator or to a foreign administration) may be recovered by the postal operator concerned and in England and Wales and Northern Ireland may be so recovered as a civil debt due to him."

sections 103, 104, 83 and 84 of the act
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2000/00026--h.htm

Ive emailed the post office lets see what they come back with

I had the same problem in Germany. I had to pay the customs, elso the package would have gone back to the US. But I wrote a letter including a copy of the receipt to the custom office and got my money back from them. So you could try this.

Ahhh, customs...gotta love them. My mom sent a Christmass package one year to our family in Italy. It arrived in Germany for some reason before going to Italy. Anyway, once the package was delivered, they charged my Aunt an Uncle a customs charge; even though my mom paid for all the shipping charges, etc. It was because it went to Germany first for some unknown reason. This has never happended before because we always sent packages to Italy.

You should be able to take your real Amazon bill to the customs and pay duty only on price paid and not value of goods.

Did you try that route? I don't believe arguing with Amazon will go too far about custom/duties.

it isnt customs its the Royal Mail acting on behalf of customs...

Ive emailed them the original order the point to amazon was why the hell they just couldnt devide the price paid between the 2 dvds or @ worse just put the price of one as in either case I wouldnt of had pay anything ....

This happened to me 3 times recently. I ordered 2 titles at a time, with discount the value would be under £18. On each occasion Amazon not only listed the full value without discount, but also added in the postage charges. As well as Tax and Import duty, in each case I had to pay an £8 post office handling charge.

This was the first time i've been had from Amazon, tho the first Blu's i've ordered. Perhaps I was unlucky.
