Default onkyo 605 upgrade to 805 or 875?

Ok I have the onkyo 605 love it but I am thinking of upgrading, to the 805 or 875. I have heard the 805 will split the 5.1 pcm or true hd audio to all 7 speakers with the plIIx where as the 605 doesn't. Also the 875 does video like it really isn't all that great. I have the sony kds60a3000 so it does some tweaks to make sd look better. So which is better to upgrade to? Any advice?

I am looking at the TX-SR805 right now as well. Anyone that has this please let us know if it is worth it. Also any deals. I found it on Amazon for 762 with free one day shipping. Anything better?

the 805 will upscale analog into hdmi @720p

the 875 will upscale analog into hdmi @1080p

...if thats any concern to you, the 875 is the better choice.

...if price is a concern, get the 805. ($760 +free shipping)

EDIT: after reading some of the amazon reviews for the 875 (extreme heat issues), looks like the 805 (reviews) is the better choice.

Now does that mean the 805 will downscale things to 720 if they are 1080p 0r 1080i?
So you don't think they will fix the 875 to not be so hot in the future? Is there onkyo models coming out soon that are worth holding out for?

no, only converts to 720p when you take an anlog source (component, composite, s-video) and output it through the hdmi cable.

If you connect hdmi source and output through hdmi, it will stay in native resolution.
If you connect analog and output analog, it will stay in native resolution.

It only downscales to 720p when going from analog in to hdmi out.

Well, I think the reason it gets so hot is because it is using a better video processor. But dont quote me, ive never owned or used one.

will they make it so it doesn't get so hot? I dunno.

So does the 875 upscale cable that is 480i to 1080p if my cable box is connected to the reciever via hdmi then to my tv via hdmi?

Also do you think it will get so hot it will burn up?

no, it only scales if you input an analog cable source and output it through the hdmi cable.

480i hdmi in will still be 480i hdmi out.

(but then again the TV might already scale the 480i to 1080p by itself)

The 805 has the same extreme heat issues. I was just about to get the 875 or 805, but now the Pioneer Elite or Denon 3808 is looking like a better bet.

Extreme heat issues? Apart from people saying it on the forums where are you hearing all this from? Mine is perfectly fine. All receivers will get warm including the Pioneer and Denon.

Pioneer Elite VSX-92THX would be my ideal choice.

But if money is not a factor, then this would win hands down:

Marantz SR7002 THX® Select2 ($1,399)

* THX® Select2 Certified
* 110 Watts x 7 Channel All Discrete Amplifier Stage
* Current Feedback Amplification
* HDMI V1.3a Repeating/Switching: 4-In/2-Out
* Dolby® TrueHD, Dolby® Digital Plus, dts-HD™ Master Audio
* Deep Color, xvYCC and SACD Support by HDMI

^That's a very nice receiver and if I had the money I may have gone that route.
But when you start paying that kind of money for a receiver it's a good time to consider getting a cheaper one (ie Onkyo) and a separate amp. Pre-pro setup is almost always better then a simple A/V receiver.

I wonder what these people are driving?

I noticed one person said they are driving Kappa 9's, Those puppies have an selectable "extended" mode that touches down to 0.8 ohm!!!

Even in "normal" mode it is like 2-4 ohm. The 875 is THX Ultra 2 rated for 4 ohm, but I would expect you have to ventilate it properly if you're going to go to those extremes.
