Default Disc coating underrated!

I think alot of people that mention the pros of bluray miss out this very very important feature

I just for the hell of it checked all my BDs then checked all my DVDs for scratchs (games and movies). About 75% of my DVDs had some scratches or scuff marks and the BDs, zero, zip, zilch. its espeically great that the BD games have nothing on them considering the more frequent use.

Im very happy that this was included on blu ray, im very much a perfectionist when it comes to scatches.

So ok, ive put up a poll for you to rate how experiene with this coating!

The scratch coating was one of my top 5 reasons to choose Blu-ray over HD DVD. It has NOT disappointed me. I take great care of my disks, but my wife has been known to watch a movie and place the DVD on top of something with the data area being the one making contact with the surface.

so far no scratches, but I wish I was brave enough to do the scratch test with steel wool... I don't want to damage the disc tho...

Hey,

I've noticed the coating holds fingerprints really well. Recently, I discovered I could be identified by the prints on my Blu Rays then I cleaned them all and now I am sure to only touch the edges.

So,... I think it smudges or grabs oily fingerprints better then DVD ever did. However,.. whenever I clean a Blu Ray it always ends up looking brand new which is great for the ones I bought used.

I love that.

If you are scratching the underside of BD then you are really careless or really trying to scuff the darned thing.

I have DVD's I have laid down on "safe surfaces" only to find I somehow have scuffs and scratches on them. I always handle them by the edge and such. DVD's and CD's are just soft pieces of junk material.

Smudges are no biggie. Little water and wipe.

I think to say there are no scratches is a bit much, but there's an undeniable improvement.

I never had a problem with a rented bd. Any Hd-dvd i rented, always stopped and skipped around at somepoint, which is why I sold my hd-dvd player a while ago.

I think the protective coating on BDs is fantastic. What I think would be even more fantastic, is for the BDA to finally implement Mandatory Managed Copy (MMC) so that I can make a copy of a Blu-ray movie onto, in my case, my Blu-ray disc of choice--TDK disc sith Durabis2 coating, and keep the original movie as my source disc. Then that way, if the kids screw up my copy on the TDK Durabis 2 disc, I can always make another copy via the source disc...leaving the source pristine for its lifetime.
