Default Protective coating

Hello,
I started wondering just how protected Blu Ray discs really are. I looked up on google how Blu Ray Discs were coated and found that they are coated with a thin hard coat layer, but what I wanted to know is wether the disc is coated on the sides. The sides of the disc is how I handle the disc and I was wondering if it is safe to handle the disc in the manner?

When you hold the disc, it feels like the entire disc is coated. The texture on the disc is the same everywhere.

OK, so I just ran my Diamond Nose Rings across my least favourite BD. Stupid cheap diamonds. The BD scratched my stones.

Um they are not diamonds then. No matter how cheap you got. simply put diamond is the hardest material known to man at this point. if your disc scrathced the "diamonds" then you must have a disc that is a diamond coated. And that would be worth money my friend.

Uh, pardon me, but the sides (edges) of the disc is the ONLY place you should have your nice, clean hands. Ever. . .

Edges should be the only places to touch a blu but sometimmes is difficult due to the way they are housed in some of the cases, but blus are made more scratch resistant and whenever I take a new blu out to play I always get a kick out of how they shine.

What?! Now you tell me! I've always done it that way.

I also wash my car with gravel. But that's ok, right?

They're pretty darn protected. My DVDs usually get little nicks from wear and tear but all my blus are basically untouched. If you WANT to scratch em' you can do it easily. But take care like a normal person (only touch the sides) and they'll remain pretty much brand new.
