Default KDL-40V3000 vs KDS-50A2000

Hey all. A friend of my parents is thinking about getting one of these 2 HDTV's. He asked me which one I would reccomend of the 2 and I said the KDS-50A2000, but im still not sure which one would be better. Hopefully you guys can help me out some by saying which you would rather, or which one is better. Thanks.

I would also go with the V3000 just cause I wouldn't want to but the bulbs for it down the road...have they taken a look at the S3000??? For a 40" I think the S would be better then the V...how far are they sitting from the tv???

Don't you hate when people bring in TVs that weren't asked about? Go with the v3000.

yea but what happens when the light's go out in the v3000? you cant replace them.....well you can but it cost more then the tv's worth. id say go with the 50a2000 for 2 reasons

-replace the bulb (after 3-4 years) your good to go vs. cant replace the ones in an flat lcd.

- i noticed that on the rear projection set's grain doesnt show up as much as on the flat lcd's.

RPTVs have bad viewing angles, big and bulky compared to a flat panel, and it is much much more unlikely for a flat panel light to go out...they say those start going 15-20 years after you start watching it and that depends on how much you watch it...it costs about $200 a bulb and I believe there is two bulbs in this one, so that means every 3-4 years you are going to have to spend $400 just on the bulbs to get them replaced, plus extra for a professional to install them, so say your flat panel last 20years and so does your RPTV and both cost $2000(just an example amount), after that time you would have to spend almost $2000 more dollars for bulbs saying the bulbs last 4 years each...not what I or anybody would really want to do...

I have the 60-XBR2, which shares a lot of the charcteristics of the A2000/2020/3000 little brother. Viewing angles from above and below affect viewing much more than from left to right. So if you plan to watch a 50 or 60" screen by setting or lying well below it from about a foot away, or if you watch by standing above a fairly low sitting TV, then don't get a rear projection LCD.

As for left and right, it is not a big an issue as was the case even 2-3 years ago. For example, when the second generation Sony LCOS setscame out about in late 2006, they weren't as deep as the original ones (e.g., the XBR1). This made the range of satisfactory viewing wider. It depends on the room but I'd wager most people's living rooms have plenty of seats in a position that would yield an acceptable picture.

As far as bulbs, they can be popped out without calling a pro. So you're talking about a couple hundred bucks every 3-5 years.

The A2000/2020/3000's are great values for the money, in my opinion.

Ya but if you don't do it right and let dust get in there it will shorten the bulbs life!!! I personally would get a professional to do it!!!

I can tell you right now because I looked at both. Get the V3000!!! I LOVE MINE!!!

The only reason I would recommend the other is if you have a really big room that you are putting it in. I would love to have a 50 inch but the contrast and overall picture of the V3000 was just too good to pass up.

A couple of things, the V3000 does 24p and the A2000 doesnt.
Also the V3000 is 10bit color and I believe the A2000 is only 8bit.
The A2000 is also dated in comparison, I think it came out in late 06.

I've got a 46" V3000 and I love it, so that would be my recommendation.

I just recently purchased a KDL-40V3000, and I am without a doubt HIGHLY impressed. I also own a KDS-R60XBR2 from Sony and a soon to arive KDL-52XBR5, and all the TV's are amazing. The 60" is for my primary viewing in the living room, and the 40" is for the bed room and the 52" is for Bluray in another room. In my personal opinion go with the V3000 is 1080p and 24p and looks amazing. The SXRD's have been nothing but a nightmare, and lamp and component replacment is more expensive than on and LCD HDTV, get it from somewhere smart that isn't going out of business soon Best Buy or better and get the waranty 5 year or so, it's worth the extra bucks in my opinion.
