If you can afford the Digital Drive line, I'd highly recommend them.

DD-10, DD-12, DD-15 and DD-18.

1000 watts RMS or not..... I just don't know if I'd go with an 8" driver for HT use..... that looks to be one great sub for music, but physics is physics, and 8" is pretty small for HT. You need a larger driver to move larger quantities of air.

They make good subs though.

For $599 you could get an AV123 MFW-15 which will run absolute circles around that Minivee.

http://av123.com/index.php?page=shop...hk=1&Itemid=37

$500 for that seems like a lot of money for 28Hz.

Default Good Choice

I have has a Velodyne Sub (12 inch speaker w/ 10 radiator) for eight years and I must say it is excellent. When I purchased it the saleman told me that I would never have to buy another sub for the rest of my life. So far he has been right! It performs flawlessly.

My local shop tried to sell me this

http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-DY...6559451&sr=8-6

but I ended up talking them into selling me the Def Tech 14" reference series (I'm my wallet's own worst enemy) and I love it, but when I auditioned this, it performs like a 12" easily, in lows/distortion, and is very tight......

I agree on this, but room acoustics and placement seem to be a bigger factor for any sub in this price range. Most of them perform well, B&W ASW 608, Martin Logan Dynamo, etc... But for me, room placement and room size meant the most.

That said you have to try it in your own space and calibrate it with an SPL meter, place it to avoid nulls and get lots of other stuff right before you can really tell.

For Martin Logan I would step up to the Depth or the Descent.
The Dynamo doesn't perform as well as other subs in its price range.

They're definitely not a subwoofer company outside their two Balance-Force Servo controlled subs.

This sounds like the VA-1012X which I have proudly owned for about the same time period. It continues to exceed my expectations.

Velodyne makes awesome subs. They are well respected in the audio community, and their subs tend to have deep bass that is very responsive and musical.

Whenever people are looking for a sub, I always recommended they check out M&K and Velodyne. M&K has been absent from the US market for the past year or so due to restructuring, but they've remained in Europe. Supposedly they will be reintroducing themselves back to the US market later this year.

The craigsub rankings only has the Velodyne DD-18 listed but may be useful in providing you more subs to consider based on your price range. Per the rankings here the Velodyne DD-18 line is over priced ($5000) for its score range.
