Default Anyone knows about Weinstein?

hey,

anyone knows what is the story with Weinstein co. they were HDDVD exclusive but merely released for the format. Now with the death of HDDVD, i am not sure about this, but i believe they are on the BD side now. but really haven't released nor mentioned anything about their plans to future releases.

The question is what is going on with that studio? is there a budget issue, or what?

There are rumors that they're having financial problems.

All they have to do is release Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on Blu and DVD and that should help out their bottom line.

actually these are the titles that i am waiting for. and like you said all they got to do is release both titles and they will be fine.

to make matters easier for them, they should merge with a bigger studio. i mean how can they afford to make titles to begin with.

I believe that Kill Bill was a Miramax production, done while Miramax was a Disney property. It won't help Weinstein out much.

correct. Both kill bill Volume 1 and 2 were Miramax and Miramax still controls them. However Weinstein retained rights to the what's known as "kill bill the whole bloody affair" which is the uncut Directors Cut of Kill bill edited as one movie.

Considering Weinstein has the rights to The Whole Bloody Affair, it will help them.

Disney has the rights to the individual volumes, but not the WBA.

I just don't think that the WBA will be that much of a help for them. It will sell, but how much is the question.

Grindhouse would be nice...

The full theatrical Grindhouse experience would also sell well.

Nothing announced yet but I'll say this......their movie called "Superhero Movie" that just released is announced for June 24th.......there is no Blu-ray announced for it.

On the same subject, Paramount is releasing Spiderwick Chronicles on the 24th with no Blu-ray release

considering they do have a financial problem, wouldn't it be logical for them to merge/be bought by a bigger studio that can handle the dilemma without repercussions.

the Superhero Movie is an MGM/Dimension title. it isn't Weinstein.

Genius Products, the company that distributes Weinstein Studio's movies for the home video market has already hinted that they will begin to release Weinstein movies on Blu-ray later on in 2008. They were both waiting for the format war to end before fully commiting to any of the next generation high definition video formats, including HD DVD for which they only released a couple of titles.
