Default SD has advantages .

have u noticed that playing games on ur SD 21in tv somehow gives a better sensation of the game , (after u recover from the initial shock of lower details and color fidelity ) .
for one thing it almost removes jagged edges and the grainy effect in many games ? ...
another thing is the CRT screens seem to blend in the different surfaces of the game better than HD tv's ( where u get a strong contrast at the line where a wall meets the ground , for instance )
and the loss of details is not phenomenal .
RR7cars became jaggedless and HS more natural

Games look fine on on my 61" DLP. I hate playing on my friends' small, non-HD sets.

CRTs don't suffer from pixelation the way HDTVs do (at least not to the same degree). Also, games that are running at 480p on next generation consoles have a lot more extra computing power to work on graphic quality, since they don't have to deal with as much screen real estate, so you get better anti-aliasing, plus no upscaling artifacts in the case of 720p -> 768 or 1080 vertical pixels.

That said, games at 480p still look like hell compared to 720p or 1080p.

its not like i don't know what difference an HD tv offers , but those are the advantages of the SDtv's
jaggies (to me) spoil everything , they are the thing i would like to see go away the most .

i do get where your coming from, before i had my own hdtv i used to have my ps3 on a sdtv in my room and then move it to the hdtv in living room when parents were out. i agree with the blending of the surfaces and the contrast. although now that i have it on hd i wouldnt change back to sd for anything!

maybe because the image is smaller on your 21" tv it is harder to pick out the faults in games as everything is titchy!

I never understood the big deal about jagged lines. They've existed since the dawn of computer graphics and will continue to exist past its end. I found even when there was supposed to be top notch hardware AA, they still showed up.

I'll take the sharpness of hi-def and HDMI over the 'less stair stepping' of SD any day.
