Default Super fed up with this Sony player!!!

I am somewhat speechless at this point...went with Sony, mostly due to brand name recognition and am at a loss to explain why my player doesn't work.
Last week I posted that I was having skip problems, video without audio and general erratic play. Contacted Sony and at their suggestion did the latest firmware update with a disc they supplied. Yep, I know, I was a month or so late on that update but it hadn't affected play at that point.
After firmware update today it now won't even RECOGNIZE Blu-Ray discs and repeats message "Can't read this disc." I know these discs aren't faulty as I have watched them before on this player and they worked for the most part flawlessly.
The really strange part is it will read SD-DVD's fine.
Now I am forced to send this hunk of crap to them and take my chances with their repair. It is still under warranty and only 7 months old.
I have never, ever had to send a piece of electronics back to the manufacturer. This includes Harman Kardon, JBL, Klipsch, JVC equipment.

I am saddened and disappointed by this product and will have to think long and hard before buying Sony again.

You must not have a Xbox 360 then.

I've heard nothing but good things about the S-300, except for the long load times. It appears to be a very solid performer. Maybe you just got a lemon?

Sony makes high quality products no worries there but its possible that whatever reads the blu-ray discs might have gotten damaged

Whoa......hold on a minute. Have you tried loading the old firmware back in? Also go to the sony page and request a firmware disc(for people who do not have a computer, they will send you a actual disc that they have made themselves) Most people download the updates on their own from the websites, but they can easily be done wrong! Use caution, and good luck!

( I have a imac, and they(sony) don't have it set up for apples ....frustrating ).

I am sure most of the faults of this player is user error or upkeep.

Default Really?

Please explain user error or upkeep to me...
Just what does that mean exactly?
The player was freezing, skipping, etc. so I contacted Sony and they suggested doing the latest firmware update and SENT me a disk. I upgraded with no issue. Now the player won't even read a Blu-Ray disc.

Please explain how this might be a "user error or upkeep" problem.
Other than occasionally dusting the damn thing what type of upkeep are you speaking of? How can you imply that there might be user error involved?

Hey Jason R.:

Maybe you are just one of those brainiacs who sit around and wait for people to have problems with electronics and coyly make idiotic suggestions?

Good luck with that strategy.
I posted here to address the community and problem solve.
Why do you post here?

Just get a ps3. i have no problems with mine..and when i get bored of watching blu rays i can play a game.

But thats just me...if you want a stand alone player and yours is broke..why not take it back and get a refund. or get it replaced at the store you purchased it from.
I never call the manufactuer...i always take it back to best buy or wherever i got it from.
if you have receipt and just want the same thing again they usually do it no problems.
And i think that player you have is a good one from what i hear.
Everything has a couple faulty products. Nothing perfect...theres ps3's that break...xbox360...wii...dvd players...blu ray players...they all mess up...just take them back and you should get a good one unless your really unlucky.

have you tried reinstalling the update???

I had similar problem with my samsung, could not read bd, had too try like 5 time to get them to load & then some would not load at all even after 15 times but dvd's loaded on the 1st time; a reinstall fixed the problem

Try unplugging the unit completely, leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes, then replugging it. If it still won't read BD, then I'd try re-installing the firmware. (After unplugging, you will need to attend to your preferred settings as the player will revert to defaults.)

I hope you get the issue fixed. Outside of the slow load times, I love the 300!

Obviously that is not the case or you would be able to read discs....

I was simply stating a fact. The other day there was a huge thread about not being able to play Batman Begins on the S300, and the people were stating they have never done firmware updates. Well, that is a upkeep issue on their end as far as I am concerned. The PS3 has updates as well, they are done through ethernet though so the PS3 fans tout that they never have problems. If users would do timely updates on their S300, I firmly believe they would never have problems as well. I am sorry if I came off as this being the situation with you, I was speaking about the community as a whole. It sounds like your unit is faulty and will have to send it back. But, from your first post it sounds like you already knew that and were just venting. It is an open forum where people express opinions, get over yourself.
