Default Keep speakers...new reciever?

Hi all,

I am fairly new to this whole blu-ray thing, now i have HD picture, i want the HD sound also, my current set up is the Sony Dav-is10 which is like an all in one home theater solution, dvd player etc (even though i don't use the dvd player as i have the blu-ray player connected) my question is can i keep the speakers and sub as i am more than happy with it and it delivers good sound (450 watt in total) but CHANGE the receiver, im thinking of getting one of them Sony black box type receivers that outputs HD sound, you might say why not just get a new speaker system to go with, well my financial situation isn't great at the moment and i only got the DAV-IS10 a few months ago..any help would be greatly appreciated

It would depend on the ohm load of the speakers (but, in all honesty, given Home Theater in a Box speakers - you might want to rethink it all, if financially possible) - actually, for a good budget, say, $500-$600, we can make a better system for you that will allow you to fully take advantage of HD audio.

1. depends on the connection of the speakers. are they bare wire?
2. do you have the details by chance? im going to have to do a little bit of digging to find out
a. impendance
b. more details on the subwoofer (active/passive)
c. i see they're REALLY small speakers, so we'd have to work on the crossover settings...

3. what in a reciever are you looking for? hdmi connectivity? cheaper?

Thanks for the response guys, im sorry i have no idea what impedance is lol, all i know is the speakers deliver 50 watts each, the sub is 200 watt, whether its active or passive i have no idea,

What i am ultimately looking for in a receiver is one that has hdmi connectivity and can deliver good UMPH! to the sub, from what i can gather so far it looks like im gonna have to get a new speakers system :-( but will have to sell the DAV-IS10 to ease the financial burden, see i thought i could just buy one of them receivers (around €300) and in ..some way..connect it to my existing set up

You need to completely overhaul that system. The DAV-IS10 has speakers that are powered from the sub, and those speakers are about the size of a golfball, smaller actually. No joke. Even if you were able to hook them up to a receiver, I don't think you would hear any difference.

saw pics of em, and i have bad news friend. albeit the connectivity challenges you may face (is it bare wire at the end? i highly doubt it), you're crossover you may set up might be too high to notice a difference.

Its bare wire to the extent that the cables split off at the end and connect directly into the speakers where as at the other end the cables have a color coded plastic end that connect into the sub..
