Default Speakers and Reciever ?

I am looking to build a nice 5.1 home theater system, with a budget of about $2000-$2500. I would like to make it 5.1 with the option to go to 7.1 when i buy a house. Right now I am looking at the Klipsch rf52 for fronts, rc-52 for center, rpw10 for sub, and maybe the rf-42 for rears. I don't have a clue as for receivers, but i would like to stay in the $500-600 range. What would you guys recommend for a system in that price range?

if you like the klipsch i would shop around a bit, you should be able to get the RF-62s for about $600 for the pair, the RC-52 around $240, RS-42s for $400, and the RPW-10 for less than $400... which puts your total for speakers around $1600, and for a receiver I would recommend the onkyo 606 if you can find one (should be able to get one for less than $500 easily) or the 706

With a $500-$600 budget for a receiver I would say take a look at THIS Pioneer, THIS Yamaha, THIS Onkyo, and THIS Harman Kardon as options.

Instead of the Klipsch sub, I suggest you look at the A2-300 from eD for exactly $400 shipped. With some careful shopping, you may also find the RS-52 surrounds, which are a step up from the RS-42s. And all this, along with the mains and center mentioned by allstar, and the receivers mentioned by lojack should come in within your budget without much problem.

fireman, if you are recommending the RS-52 surrounds I want to recommend the RC-62 center as well... to keep everything a little more closely matched, and hopefully still within budget

I think that would be a great idea. Actually, if the OP goes with RF-62 mains, the center would be a more important upgrade than the surrounds. Good call.

I have the exact speaker config above, plus the CS-650-R ceiling speakers. I went with the Marantz SR5003, and I'm very happy with the setup. MSRP for the SR5003 is $800 but I was able to get it for $680.

You should also take into consideration the size of your room.

How many watts should i be looking at for each channel? What are some good sites to find the speakers for cheaper. I believe I have a friend who may be able to get them at cost for me which is also i nice alternative.

Welcome to the site BS68280

World Wide Stereo I bought speakers here, the customer service is incredible, one of my Energys were sent damaged and they shipped me the new one before I returned the damaged one, let me keep it to use in the house until the new one showed up... that was awesome.

Anyways, I don't know how Klipsch speakers are priced other then what I have seen in BB, so maybe these prices are better....

dont worry about receiver wattage, honestly. we have a switching system at my work and i've run the klipsch (from the RF-15's to the RF-63's) on every receiver we've had, from a $150 receiver to a $3000 receiver... and although the more expensive ones sound better, the cheaper ones drove the speakers just fine.

klipsch speakers are very efficient and can be driven by just about anything.

If you're gonna look at other brands, there are also some nice package deals from Energy. Also keep an eye on vanns.com. They have some great sales that pop up from time to time. Free shipping to boot, and they carry Klipsch.

For $600 you could get a Denon AVR-1910, an Onkyo TX-SR607, a Pioneer VSX-1010AH-K, or a Yamaha RX-V665. If you're willing to go refurbished, you could get a Marantz SR5003 from accessories for less.

if setting individual speaker xovers is important to you, make sure the receiver you buy has audyssey room correction. My pioneer elite didnt, and some yamahas dont let you do this. I have had two onkyos and love them.

So is it a safe bet that any receiver with Audyssey will let you do this? And receivers with a different type of auto setup feature (such as Yamaha's proprietary feature) may or may not allow it?

Apparently not. But now that I know, it's definitely a feature I'll know to look for in my next receiver. I guess I got lucky with the receiver I have now that it does have a separate crossover setting for every speaker group, like you mention.
