I was told by several different sources that the human eye cannot tell the difference between 720p, 1080i/p from the suggested viewing distance. They claim the only way you can benefit from 1080P is if you sit really close, or are a huge gamer. Either way doesn't really apply to me, I play games but sit far away. Would I benefit from 1080P????

Thanks

There is a chart, I've found it searching avsforum before. Basically you are correct. I sit 15ft away from my tv right now and it's a 46". It would not matter if it was 720p, 1080i and 1080p the PQ diff is negligible. Now if you sit 6 ft away from a 60", 1080p is the way to go. Long story short, if you are on a budget and sit a good ways away, 720p is fine, if you have unlimited funds buy a 1080p tv and a blu ray and enjoy!

Try and find the viewing distance chart and itll help explain it.

I am adding this after reading your signature. Seeing that you have a PS3 and a 60" pioneer plasma(one of the best tv's on earth) I personally wouldn't change a thing, especially if you viewing distance is greater than 10ft.

I've always gone by the twice the distance away from the TV as the size of the diagonal measurment. Hence if you have a 55" TV sit approx 110" away. This has worked well for me and for the TV's I have owned and is a simple and quick way to determine a decent viewing distance without getting into a bunch of mathmatical equations and physics.

For 1080p and 35mm I watch at aproximate 2PH
At that distance I can see the 35mm resolution or the pixels as sharp as they are. 4000pixels would be about the limit where all lines, dots and points fade into nothingness

1080i starts to look slightly out of focus

Based upon the chart & my monitor size, looks like I'm good for 1080p. However LOL, sometimes the younger kids sit close enough that they would benefit from 1440p should such a creature ever come to pass commercially.
