Default Speaker Impedance with Reciever

Hey everyone,

Once again I am looking at getting a reciever to enjoy my blu-ray movies a little more than my old 5.1 reciever (which supports DD and DTS but not the new codecs).

I dont have a bunch of money and am looking at the Sony STR-DG720, which should support LPCM that my PS3 sends out anyways (correct?).

My question is that I had purchased an older reciever a couple years back from sony, which came with speakers. The label on these speakers say that they have an Impedance of 6ohms, however I see on the back of the reciever I plan to buy that it supports 8-12ohms (from memory). Is it safe to run these speakers on this reciever? Or wait till I can buy new speakers at the same time?
