Default Questions about my HT set-up

I have the Onkyo 705,ps3,Def Tech 3000(center),Def techs bp10s and bp2s,everything is connected via hdmi cables, here's my problems first off All my audio settings sound alike to me,is there suppose to be a vast difference in what you hear on different settings. Also does anyone have the 3000?it sounds awfully "bright","hot" to me maybe all of this is one in the same problem some adjustment on my 705? Help!!!

You need to explain better. What do you mean by "All my audio settings sound alike to me"? Are you talking about the different audio codecs? Also, the 3000 sounds "bright" or "hot". I own the Def Tech 2000 center and it isn't bright. Explain how you set up your system. Did you calibrate your audio? What are the settings, speaker sizes, crossover, etc.?

All codeacs sound alike to me when switching around during movie playbacks.I have gone into setup menu on onkyo I have my bp10s set to full band, along with the 3000(This is after trying other settings)have my bp2s set at 50 hertz and back surrounds set @the same, tone is +2 bass+4,center is connected single wire(low).fronts are set @ +2 and center is +3,rears are +2 sub is +7(JBL10in)>Everything is connected via HDMI cables into 705.Have not use the Audessey setup thought I'd try it on my own 3000 sub turned half way up room is approx 12 x 30 Hope this helps!!

Def Tech speakers are excellent. If you adjust your system properly, you should become very happy. These are my suggestions:
  • Run the calibration program on your receiver for 6 different positions. Make sure you put the microphone on a tripod.
  • Set all your speakers to small.
  • Set the crossover for LFE to 80Hz.
  • Set the crossover for the fronts to 60Hz or 80Hz.
  • Set the crossover for the center to 90Hz or 100Hz.
  • Set the crossover to BP2 surrounds to 90Hz.
  • On the subwoofer, turn the crossover all the way up to the highest point.
  • Make sure the volume on the sub is between the middle and three quarter point.
  • Move your subwoofer around to see if you can get better bass response.
  • Experiment with the phase control to get a better blend between your subwoofer bass output and your front speakers.
  • Don't be afraid to change things a little to fine tune your system to your taste.
The lossless audio codecs such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD MA, and LPCM should sound the same. There are subtle differences between the lossy Dolby Digital and DTS Digital and the lossless audio codecs.

Read A Guide to Subwoofers and A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes to position and adjust your subwoofer better.

Also read A Guide to Home Theater Audio Codecs to better understand the differences between the codecs.
