Arrow Spawn 2

Todd McFarlane really want's Spawn 2 to happen. In an interview with Gamepro, this is what he had to say about the possible project:

Quote:
"It'll get made," McFarlane promised GamePro.com. And he plans to be the guy in the director's seat as well. "Why not me? I've been living with this movie in my head for a long time. I don't feel like trying to convey what's in my brain to somebody else...it would take too long. I can just do it myself. And people aren't adverse to it. You know, Frank Miller is directing his stuff now."

McFarlane says his goal would be to make a lower budget version of the story, citing the figure $10 million several times (the first Spawn cost $40 million). "If I make it an $80 million budget [Spawn movie sequel], they won't let me direct it...nor would I want to direct it. There are too many guys who are smarter that can do it. But a $10 million dollar creepy movie? I can do that one..."
Good idea?

Good idea.

If the plan was to get himself out of debt.

I totally see a Spawn sequel getting greenlit, given the comic book boner that Hollywood has right now...but I doubt McFarlane will ever see the director's chair. Especially if Frank Miller's The Spirit turns out to be as bad as the early buzz leads us to believe.

They should just reboot this series. Never thought Spawn was any good. They tried to make the movie too comical. Also I thought they made a cartoon sequel they called Spawn 2?

In the mid 90's they are a series on HBO, animated but way more serious then the movie was. They need to make this new movie the same way.

I thought the show a tad overrated. I like the style of animation but pacing and other stuff could have been better.

I'd love to see Spawn 2 made. Or just reboot and call it Spawn and do it right this time. I love the comic, and the HBO series and had such high hopes for the movie but.... well you guys have seen it.

As much as a control freak that Mcfarlane seems to be I still don't understand how he read the treatment and went "Bad script? corny writing, Sub par special effects? yeah lets do this!" I mean the only thing cool about that movie was Spawn and his cape.

I recently watched this with my nephew a few months ago who has recently become a Spawn fan because of the comic. he's 14 and was all excited when he heard there was a movie.. So.. I rented it and watched it with him and he said "dude, that move really sucked" I mean he was REALLY upset. 14 yrs old and even he was in shock at how cheesed out and bad it was.

I would love to see this get a green light.I think that Mcfarlane should write the story and get someone else to direct it.
I am afraid that now that Frank Miller as directed his own movie everyone int the comic book media might want to do the same.

I have the dvd set of the show and can not agree more. Some of the plots were very slow moving.

McFarlane is kind of a douche in his interviews.

enjoyed the hbo tv show though, and the early issues of the comic

I just wish they'd reboot the franchise. I mean the 1st movie really had a lot going for it. Michael Jai White was cool, and the guy who played the clown, forget his name at the moment, was cool. But otherwise the movie really failed big time. So a reboot would be best imo.

I think this project is basically dead. At point it looked like it was going to happen at Blumhouse, the production company that does low budget horror movies like Paranormal Activity and The Purge. They even had Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner signed onto star.

But I think the problem is that even with them on board nobody wants to let McFarlane direct the film himself, even with a low budget of "only" $10m-$15m. But since he owns Spawn, they can't do it without his approval so the film has been stalled for several years now.

In a way I kind of can't blame the studio. Yeah, the original Spawn movie was a disaster. But McFarlane has no directing experience and really no experience working in production in general.
