HDMI - Cable box to TV?? - Blu-ray Forum

Okay... over New Years a few people asked me why i didnt have an HDMI cord running from my cable box to my TV... Ive heard doing this is unnecessary... Is this true??

pretty much hdmi is only a must if it is a 1080p signal with hd audio codecs

Why would you not connect it that way, if you have the inputs available on your TV? It's a cleaner connection (1 wire versus multiple). It will transfer a digital signal to your digital set, negating the analog conversions at both ends if you don't use HDMI. Yes, HDMI is needed for 1080p and HD audio, but those are not the only advantages.

I absolutely agree but HDMI is not a must. It will deff be a cleaner hook up since there will only be one cable, but if everything is hooked up its not really that important to buy a hdmi and hook it up that way. Since there wont be that much of a defference.

Yeah, I recently switched from component cables to HDMI cables and it scared the crap out of me (and my parrot) when I turned the TV back on. Audio was much more dynamic and video much more vivid, especially colors. Then I got my 606...parrot not thrilled at this point (especially with the Audyssey setup tones

)

Theres no difference since they both do 1080i. dont waste your time unless its for 1080p signal..

so your saying the only reason would be to get rid of wires...there are no other advantages... cuz i already have it set up with a component cable.. so y would i buy a hdmi cord?

It depends on the quality of your Component cable...
a Quality cable will compare to HDMI, an inexpensive one will not
also an inexpensive HDMI is much cheaper than an expensive Component

ok. so say i have the best HDMI cord and the best Component cable... will they do the same thing from my cable box to my tv??
