I advise against it. You're not getting a good picture.. it's basically the factory standard with the color and contrast jacked up. My TV's "vivid" is actually called "dynamic" and it makes it look horrid.

I recommend searching "Panasonic TH-50PZ80U calibration settings" in Google. A little bit of research on what your video settings should be will put you on the right track.

I did this with my Samsung and the difference is huge. You'll be able to see the difference in PQ if you flip back and forth.

I don't know that it's necessarily going to "hurt" the TV, but I'd argue that you can get a better picture in different modes.

AVSforum will give you entire threads about the preferred picture settings for specific tv models.

There's another great website out there that will recommend picture settings for your specific model, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. Can anyone help me out?

The cinema mode typically has the best gray scale tracking and color accuracy on Panasonic plasmas. You can get it even better though by using a calibration disk like Avia or DVE.

I know that the Vivid setting on my Panny is just awful...

i feel sorry for you retina's!

Vivid introduces all kinds of digital noise into the picture, but then again it is personal preference.

To get the most accurate colors and flesh tones and deepest blacks possible the ideal settings are to have the tv on cinema and have the color set to warm. The gamma settings on cinema and warm are about 99% accurate

Vivid will also increase the risk of IR. here is a link to the avs forums and then their is a link to blu-ray.com members setttings for this tv and settings that i have posted on this site

TRUST ME...I got Burn In from playing COD4 on GAME Mode in the first 2 1/2 months of having it. WASNT NOT IR.... Panny couldnt belive it. CC took it back and I swapped with the Samsung 52 850 the 8 Series..I liked it for Gaming but not movies, So i got another Panny 800u and I have it set to THX with the IR on Force 1. There are some help hints on here that have helped me

Default try to calibrate your tv set...

almost every TV set in the market come with wrong picture settings that can even damage the screen (increased risk of burn in i.e.), my suggestion is, try to calibrate your TV set, by a a profsional or with some of the available software like Avia, you wont believe the difference in PQ.
