Default need advice for new amp

ok so im looking to buy a seperate amp to power my lsi15's, lsic and lsifx's. I want to get a 7 ch amp as i wish to eventually upgrage with 2 lsi 7's and dont want to be stuck with a 5 ch amp. Iv been looking at the b&k reference 200.7, but at about 3000 it is out of my price range. Also, my speakers are rated at 200 watts so i dont know if this would be overkill. Can anyone give me advice as to where i could a) find this amp at a reasonable price, or b) find a comprable amp for under 2000, maybe even 1500. Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you

Emotiva has a good reputation for solid performing amps at good prices. This one may fit your needs and budget. Good luck.

I have that amp and I can vouch for it that its awesome. Those are power hungry speakers, I believe 4-ohm rated. My dad has the LSI9's and to get the most out of them they need a good amp. I did a lot of price shopping in that price range, if $3k is too much, what is your price range? A lot of people on this site will tell you emotiva, I have never heard them, yet they seem to be a great value, but I don't know how they compare directly to more common name brand amps such as Rotel, Anthem, etc. Take a look at the Marantz Home Theatre amp, should be pretty darn good, 8 channel x 140, but then you could also bi-amp and drive them with more power.

Go check out Rotel. They have a nice ICE power amp rated at 200 watts per channel. I believe the price is around $1600. Also, check out Wyred 4 Sound. You can buy a 5 channel amp from them now and then upgrade it later when you want to go to 7 channels. Of course you can puchase a 7 channel now if you like. They also use Class-D B&O ICE power modules. They sound great and run cool.

thanks for the imput, my budget is between 1500-2000, im not looking for a class d amp, and iv heard alot of good things about emotiva but iv decided against them and am looking for something a lil more high end. Rotel was an option but they do not make a 7ch amp so they are out of the picture to

I'm just curious, because I don't know a lot about amps, but what is about Emotiva that's caused you to rule them out?

I went through some similar problems looking for my amp, I looked at rotel, but wanted class A/B, not D. I was not interested in emotiva either. If you can stretch your budget that Marantz should be a very good amp, however it doesnt list if it is class D or A/B. I don't see marantz producing D amps though, i would call if you are interested though. I will get back to you soon when I do a little more snooping for amps in your price range, in that range you may be stuck with class D.

Outlaw Audio has an amp their model 7200 for $1849, seems quite tasty, although once again it doesnt list the class amp that it is. Outlaw audio amps

Prerich has a good idea, check audiogon. You can find good deals on mint condition used amps for a good price.

I am not sure if you can buy a quality 7 channel amp (new) for your budget. You may want to check out Audiodgon (http://www.audiogon.com/) and look for a slightly used amp.

I have a Sunfire TGA-5400. This is a 5 channel at 400 watts per channel amp. I found it http://dmc-electronics.com on clearance. It was new and on clearance because Sunfire just released TGA-5401. Sunfire changed the faceplate on the 01 products. DMC reduced the price from $4000 to $2500 for their remaining stock and they flew out of the door at that price.

Anyway, I am happy with this AMP. It runs very cool and sounds terrific. I am forced to stay away from Class A/AB because my room is small and I need cool running products.

I am not sure of the 7 channel 200 watt AMP but it is worth checking out especially if it fits within your budget. DMC seems to discount so I would contact them if you are interested.

I know a great deal about Aragon. They have been around for quite some time specializing in power amps and preamps. Beefy power supplies, sturdy construction. I've heard them with B&W's and with the Klipsch THX series speakers, Not to mention a ton of other high-end speakers (JMLabs, Signature Paradigms, ect.) I have just found out however, that Klipsch has killed the Aragon brand name along with the dimise of Acurus (this was the lower end of the company). Acurus was killed off a few years ago (but made superub products). Aragon continued (it was the higher end of the two - both designed by Mondial - Proceed, Mark Levinson ect). Well last year Klipsch killed off Aragon (RIP). I guess it's a result of the economy - more people looking to value instead of bleeding edge, high-end performance (Its like the only ones left are the ones priced so high that even they don't expect to sell over 10 amps a year)!!! That nice $2000 - 5000 spot is disappearing and high value companies like Emotiva are taking a hunk of that pie. Emotiva does represent a high value performace vs cost in the amp market.

I'll second that by adding:

I've used many different amps from many different manufacturers including B&K, Rotel, Outlaw, Krell, and the Emo UPA-7 is just as high-end as just about any amp out there. You're going to have to go well out of your price range to truly find an amp that is moderately superior. Good luck!
