Default PS3 / GEnesis SACD + Pal DVD

Hi All -

I'm having a hell of a time getting the Genesis 1970-1975 SACD+NTSC DVD set. It's now on an indefinite backorder status at elusivedisc and acousticsounds cancelled the order for the NTSC version.

They do however offer the SACD+PAL DVD version.

Would the PS3 playback the PAL DVDs on an NTSC set?

I've never quite figured out whether or not PAL DVDs can be played back on an NTSC set.

I also have a Denon DVD2200 and am wondering if it would play PAL DVDs on an NTSC set.

Thanks in advance, and if you've located the SACD+NTSC DVD set, please let me know.

I MUST complete this collection on SACD.... If I have to, I'll get the SACD+PAL set, but really want to be able to watch the DVDs as well.

This is the NTSC edition from HMV Japan.
This is how I got the very first box set release and I was pleased with shipping times and packaging.

Additional Information

DVD:NTSC Region All
Current exchange rates put it at around USD$230, but if you find two other SACD's to go with it that are part of the multi-buy titles you'll get it for 25% off.

Here's a list of all the SACD's they stock in case you want to take a browse - http://www.hmv.co.jp/search/index.as...0&target=MUSIC

There will also be DVD-Audio titles eligible for the multi-buy discount as well

As for the PS3, no you can't watch PAL. The $169 Oppo 980H supports DSD output through HDMI and also will convert PAL>NTSC on the fly (I've tried it successfully with some Depeche Mode SACD+DVD releases)

excellent! thanks!.

I'm going to email elusivedisc and see what the hold up is. If I don't receive a respons in a couple days I'll bail on that order and go with HMV.

The original ship date was supposed to be 1/26. Perhaps that's still the case.

I'll have to dig around for info on my Denon DVD2200. It may convert PAL->NTSC, but not sure. It's quite old at this point (great SACD+DVD-A player by the way, though it pre-dates HDMI; also plays every DualDisc I've ever thrown at it).

Your Denon can be hacked for multi-region dvd playback and should be able to play PAL material. Here is the link for more information:

Alternatively, you can get the UK import, rip the DVD and convert the video content to NTSC and burn that back on DVD. Cheaper, maybe?

Well, ElusiveDisc had to cancel all SACD+NTSC DVD orders. Speculation is that a company who releases Blu-Ray of questionable quality (single-layer, non-HD audio) has taken it upon themselves to ensure it is a difficult, nay impossible, to secure the NTSC version. Why do companies do stupid sh*t like this?

Even HMV no longer carries the NTSC version.

AcousticSounds never had it to begin with.

So I ordered the PAL set. I believe my Denon 2200 will play the PAL DVDs just fine, and as someone else pointed out, it should be possible to rip/convert/burn to NTSC.

Received the PAL SACD set from acousticsounds.com

FANTASITIC sounding!!! And my Denon 2200 will play the PAL format without any problem.

The Genesis SACD circle is complete. Next up -- the Moodies on SACD. I stupidly only purchased Days of Future Passed instead of a set of all their SACD releases. In Search of the Lost Chord (yeah, I know it's 2.0 channel) is a must-have.

Hey -- can anyone confirm if this is legit?

It's scheduled for release on March 31st according to CD Universe - they have it for $37.99.

I imagine it'll be cheaper than that on Amazon when it finally comes out, it's been pushed back a few times from what I can see.

Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson Lake and Palmer also just came out on SACD - it's $35 from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Brain-Salad-Su...5654616&sr=1-1

Really? Can you point me to where this info comes from?
That really sucks if it's true, but for sure several reviews of the domestic set always say "get the import for SACD"

It was actually an email from elusivdisc's president Bob Bantz to everyone who pre-ordered the sacd+ntsc version claiming that EMI/WEA are responsible for ensuring it was near impossible to source for the US market.

all conjecture i suppose...

Frank - sorry I didn't see this earlier. I had been trying to order the Same Genesis set for months last fall and finally got it through amazon.co.uk - and at an incredible price of 81 pounds. They've got some good prices now on sacd's and blu-ray disks - even cheaper than stateside.

The latest I have heard is that the Black Sabbath release will likely not be on SACD.

Do you know of any place that will do a PAL to NTSC transfer. I would think that would be your cheapest route.

Well, in the end I really didn't need to. My Denon plays SACD/DVD-A/DVD PAL/NTSC just fine.

I think -- given enough research -- that I could also rip/convert the video using various tools found on the 'net. At least I'm led to believe this based on some limited research.

The entire collection of Genesis on SACD (if you buy the uber-box sets) is phenomenal by the way. I can think of two other rock bands (well, maybe three) that I would spend way too much money on if they did something similar: Rush, Pink Floyd, and Yes. And from that list, you can guess where my musical tastes fall :>)

BTW -- shame no other floyd ever appeared on SACD outside of DSotM.

I'm reading that now too - totally ridiculous but another in a long list of signs that there is no future for SACD where popular music is concerned.
