Default New numbers shows WALMART sales more TV's then BEST BUY and VIZIO very popular

When comparing the best picture quality on the high-end LCD flat panels according to the reviews I have read the 5 top companies would be:

1. Sony
2. Samsung
3. Panasonic
4. LG Electronics
5. VIZIO

When it comes to the most popular displays to own by mainstream consumers the 5 top brands are:

1. Samsung
2. VIZIO
3. Sony
4. Panasonic
5. LG Electronics

"The study revealed that Samsung was again the top flat-panel TV brand, but Sony, the previous No. 2, dropped into the No. 3 position as value-driven brand Vizio moved into second place with 14.3 percent of the overall U.S. flat-panel TV market."

“This is an indication that in the present tough economic climate, consumers are becoming less brand conscious and prefer televisions that they perceive to have good picture quality and that are less expensive compared to the competition, rather than seeking models with a lot of extra features,” Patel added."

“Vizio’s success in the fourth quarter was partly due to increasing brand recognition, courtesy of the company’s strong marketing efforts and retail strategy,” said Riddhi Patel, principal analyst, television systems, for iSuppli. “A cornerstone of Vizio’s selling strategy is Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, which features the company’s LCD-TV products. U.S. consumers in November and December 2008 bought more televisions at Wal-Mart than at Best Buy, the first time this has occurred in the two years iSuppli has been conducting research in this area.”

Vizio's commercials during college and NFL football games this fall didn't hurt.

I have one, and I highly recommend it.

Price has got to be the biggest factor. Not that Vizio makes and bad product, but a Sony looks better when they are side by side

Why is this surprising? We're in an economy that has been tanking for months, now, and is only going to get worse. People are spending less, and if they must buy a new TV, then they'll head to WM to get the cheapest they can find.

forgot to mention to put a stack of bills of how much the products cost on each tv, then compare quality vs cost. That is why Vizio is winning out.
The y have improved alot over the years.

In addition with the economy the way it is i think alot more people are thinking cost vs quality.

One thing you should be aware of is that Wal-Mart often gets their "everyday low prices" by having features stripped out of electronics so they can charge less than the competition. If the model # ends with a "W", carefully compare feature sets

Personally i think Sharp has a garbage picture from factory default settings. Customize it well or get it calibrated and they're pretty good but few people do that so it doesn't surprise me that they're not on the list because not many consumers have to know hows to customize picture settings and even less actually have a set calibrated. Vizio is great for the value, my favorite bargain tv, but it's very easy to up sell people to a Samsung or Panasonic. The problem is that walmart workers more-than-likely have no salesmanship or cares to do this.

my uncle bought three vizios, roughly the same time "not from wallmart"

when his first went bad he called up a repair dude cause it was out of warranty, started to explain the problem, and the guy laughed and said its a vizio, no problem we know what it is! when the repair dude showed up at his house he explained the faulty chip or whatever that generally fails within the first year or shortly after and new exactly what chip to bring lol with out ever looking at the tv! since that time he has had his second fail for the same reason, 3 is still running strong lol but that is not a good average imo. a big case of you get what you pay for, so when your vizio's start going black, or turning themselves off at random times, remember you got a DEAL

as far as LCD goes i personally prefer to stick with sony and samsung from my in home post calibration viewing experience

No they do not always make the best and most innovative products by any stretch of the imagination. Innovative yes in starting a product. Others frequently take their ideas further and many companies make a superior product of any given type of machine. Though, in the case of LCD TVs, Sony is probably the best.

Goes to show you how a household brand selling at the big chain stores can compete. I was not up on my Visio facts and found this interesting article.

Funny how the article doesn't talk about the shady business practices of Vizio, the patent infringement lawsuits, stolen technology, poor customer service, cheap Chi-Com parts, etc.

No thanks. I'll pay a little more (and that's really ALL it is) for a quality product from a trusted company.

I agree but it's really a matter of preference. I've never liked Samsungs TV's but other people swear by them. I'm pretty much a Sony man but I dont like the new frames they are putting on the new XBR series. I'm glad I got mine when I did, I love the look of the XBR 4

This is it right here. i agree 100%.

Thats good for vizio that its selling alot of tv's, but thats only because its so damn cheap. there's nothing to really say about samsung, they adverties their tv's alot ( official tv for the NFL ) and their cheaper than sony's. everybody buys samsungs, my sister bought one last week. they make good tv's. now if only sony could do what they do. im sure that list would be different. the sony brand name is still strong, but their prices are way to exspensive.

Vizio is coming out with a 55" LED backlight tv this summer for $2000. how is sony and samsung going to compeat? thats why samsung makes their TOC line, to stand out from cheap ass vizio.

55" samsung A950 $5000, 55" sony XBR8 $6500, 55" vizio $2000. i wonder which one joe is going to choose.
