Default What did I do wrong!?

Ok, I spent the entire evening wiring up the living room, setting up the speakers and plugging everything into my Pioneer 1018. I haven't run the MCACC just yet, because I wanted to take a quick listen. Anyways, here's the dilemma...Right now I'm watching CBSHD and the sound continues to go in and out. The receiver keeps switching from Dolby Digital to Stereo...what did I do wrong, and how to fix it. Thanks again guys!

it sound like a bad cable or input on the receiver. Try a different source maybe blu-ray.

OK just tried blu-ray and works fine. Almost seems like the receiver doesn't play well with my cable box. I just hooked up the component cables instead of the HDMI for the cable box and now NO audio at all...maybe I'm just dumb

You will need digital coax or toslink for audio.

Yep, I spoke too soon...I hooked that up and I'm good. The whole HDMI not working deal is still bothering me though.

Does it only happen on CBSHD? I have seen some crappy signals do that, it is rare though.

hmm. lets go back to the basics.

1. isolate the factors. - could it be the cable itself? check and use the hdmi cable for other items
2. maybe its the hdmi port on the cable box? on your sources?
3. at this point, we can move on to the reciever... again isolating it and seeing it might have been any three of these.

Nope...every channel. It was weird, because when I first got audio coming from cable with HDMI connected it was fine...then, since I wasn't getting any audio from the center channel I switched audio modes and all went down hill. Maybe someone else has had something similar happen

What cable company do you have? I know that Charter does not have HDMI compatible boxes. The spot is there for it but it is disabled (on what I had before switching to uverse anyhow).

I experenced on BDP-S500 and PS3 for my AV/Receiver

Now, I using HDMI on BR player to AV/Receiver. I switched 7.1 to 2.1 channel
I watched a movie, loudspeaker little lower sound, i don't know that.

I switch to PS3 is better sound than blu-ray player because 2.1 channel LPCM

My BDP-S500 is rest!

I have Time Warner, and use a Scientific Atlanta HDDVR. I won't have a chance to double check the hdmi cable possibility until morning. One thing I did notice is when the problem occurred it was showing that I was running 5.1, but only have the fronts and center at the moment. Not sure if that would matter though. Also, my Toshiba was recognizing the receiver through RegzaLink, so maybe I can try another tv input. Will keep you updated...

Got everything squared away! I did a hard reset on the receiver and then ran MCACC, and finally changed inputs and outputs for each source device. Everything is good to go...thanks for everyone's help!
