firmware update via the ethernet jack on the bd-p1200 - Blu-ray Forum

I posted this over at AVS forums too, but I just wanted to share over here too to see if anyone has experienced similar problems:

I picked up Pirates 2 (Dead Man's Chest) today at lunch, and when I took it home I was unable to get it to play in my Samsung BD-P1200. I could play the intro materials, but then I would get to what I think is the disc menu. It has the talking pirate skull, which gives its schpeel, then goes into the loop "dead men tell no tales". I am assuming I am supposed to see menu options around this talking skull, but I have nothing to work with. There are no words around the skull or selections, and I cannot do anything with the remote buttons. I get the red circle icon when I try to do anything. I tried resetting the player with the FF for 5 secs, but that did nothing. I have started the disc several times, and it still does not play.

I am going to call Samsung now, but I just thought I would post my findings.

*Update - Samsung is aware of this problem, they said I was the 4th person to call about this today. They said they are receiving the movie from Netflix tomorrow to help resolve the issue, and will call me back. I hope netflix didn't put them on the "short wait" for the movie.

*Update 2 - As already mentioned, a firmware update took care of this problem.

3 of 3 folks have "fixed" their problems on the BD-P1000 with firmware 1.1.

Waiting for news on the fix for my 1200. Fairly amazing Samsung will wait a day for a netflix copy when they could bop down the street right now and pick up a copy.

If stuff like this flew all over the net we'd be buried in reports of Toshiba disc playback issues, which far exceed those for Blu-ray.

Not that I enjoy it, but it's all part of that early adopter phase we're living in.

got my in today but havent tryed them out yet, i have a ps3 so i will let u know if i have any problems. I hope u fix urs though

i work at target and luckaly saved mine. the blu rays were all sold out of POTC and they work fine on my PS3

I see you got it going from your post on AVS. Good you got it going, you may want to call samsung (leavel 2 person) & tell them how you fixed it. You should not have to manually input the IP address....

yeah, for those interested, the firmware update fixed the problem with the Pirates 2 disc. So.. a fix was available the same day the movie was released, which seems good to me.

as for the network issue, the player worked via DHCP fine a couple of weeks ago, but it would not budge today, no matter how much restarting and cable switching I tried.

I'm gonna call samsung now and let them know about the fix.

I have the Sony BDP S-1 and neither of the movies will play on my machine. Never had a problem before.

reminds me of the problems I had with the descent on my sammy bd-p1000 but firmware fixed it hopefully sony has something for yours

I just picked-up POTC 1 & 2 and neither work!

Any suggestions?

went to samsung.com could not find a download to fix the problem for the bdp-1200 were do i look for it all i found was a download for a manul.
