Default Panny 800U - THX Setting?

I have a question about the THX setting. People will say its a good setting to use next to having its ISF Calibrated. Now, when i watch with this setting, i find it to be really dark. anyone have any insight on this?

From what i have read it will still require you to calibrate it to your room. The thx settings are just bring the tv into "spec" to be able to correct properly... Meaning the reds/greens/blues are in the correct range. The whites and blacks are correct, but you still need to adjust to the particular environment the tv is in.

get a calibration disc and adjust your brightness and your contrast.

Chances are that unless you calibrated your last tv (correctly) you may have been watching to bright.

I think you'll find that you'll have to jack up the Picture setting to brighten the picture to get it closer to what you're used to. The THX setting is naturally on the dim side, so it will never pop like the Vivid setting. I use THX for movies & most HDTV viewing....I have a custom file for the odd time I feel the picture is a little dim.

Here is a link to cnet's settings for your TV (for dark room viewing). Start there and see what you think.

Also try www.tweaktv.com. I actually like their settings for my tv much better than Cnet's.

I think you are just used to a TV with the picture control set way to high.I have the 800 u and use the THX mode on all my inputs. The picture does'nt look dark to me just more natural.Of couse I do watch it in a theater room where it is dark day or night.
