Default Region compatibility.

Since there is really only 1 player to my knowledge that is actually built as a region free player, I have a question.
If you get a Region B player what are the compatibility issues with regular DVD?
Will a Region B player play both region 2 and 4 DVD's?

I only ask because I have a huge import library of DVD's and would not mind going the same route with Blu.

Most BD players can be made region free for DVD only with a remote. It works the same way like it does for DVD players.

@jasononyx: please perform a search here on the forum, since there are numerous threads on this topic and it appears that you are mixing-up a few things (region-free refers to dvd-regions 1-6, zone-free refers to bd-zones A-C, which are not entirely related). Please don't forget to include the PAL/NTSC discussions either.

@KubrickFan: 'Most' is not true AFAIK; the only ones that do dvd-regionfree with a code I heard about are two Pioneers.

Sidenote: I also know about the LG that does both (dvd and bd) with a code, as does the HDI Dune's, but not dvd-only. There are a few that are already 'free' out-of-the-box, like the Kogan and presumably the Momitsu (could be that it's made 'free' by reseller hkflix, but this is still unknown). Finally, many can be made 'free' (for both dvd and bd) with a hardware modification (but not with a remote-code).
